Q.for Jake +Caleb + All who participate in FTM
hi guys! trust we are all well ? i have been AWOL lately due to some severe troubles in my life however.. it just dawned on me while working my way though some of the Awesome stuff we get here from my Favorite place to be.. this is my Question .: V.C.A Faders who uses them ?( i do all the time).. lets rephrase the question " who does not use them" ? and why not? i love the FTM philosophy of free up the faders .. however VCA faders are important to me for one main reason (other than controlling a group of tracks volume) which is my wet chans.. eg. i have a group of instruments or vocals going into a buss , this bus has sends and returns too and from Wet channels verbs delays etc. if i change the volume of any and or one of theses Faders then the initial settings for the fx is also not as was and need to be adjusted.. with vca faders this is not the case... hope i make myself understood ? would be cool if you tell me your thoughts on this subject.. cheers all. T

I never use VCAs. I get everything I need from my Auxes. But you do you! If it works for you, so be it!

What monitors does Jake use?
I remember watching a FTM and Jake was talking about the monitors he uses, but I have no idea which one it was and which replay he says it in. If I remember correctly Iโ€™m almost positive he said something about a discontinued KRK model. Does anyone know what monitors he uses and/or know which monitors him and Caleb recommend? Would love to know what type of studio monitors they recommend.

Downloading Quality Reference Files
I just went over to HDtracks to try and download a song to use as a reference track. Unless I'm missing something, it's only allowing me to download an entire album. If there's a work-around, or trick I'm not seeing, please let me know. I have Spotify, but you can't download their tracks. On Amazon, you can purchase a lower quality .MP3, but if you want a wave file, it has to stay within your Amazon account. A very frustrating loss of time today....and still no solution....

I use amazon for references. It's good enough for what it's for and very quick and easy
Dumb question: Peak or RMS levels on mix bus?
Hi guys, I started a thread on metering plugins earlier but can't remember which to look at when mixing, are we focusing on Peak or RMS on the actual master bus? My pro tools of course has a master bus peak meter but all the better plugins have both to look at, Peak and RMS values.

I use peak dbfs when mixing. Not paying any attention to LUFS/RMS at this point, just making sure I'm not clipping the master fader!
