The Largest Gang Buster Trial Of All Times
Italy built an entire courthouse to prosecute the Mafia. They charged 475 members in a trial that lasted from 1986-1992. To date, it is one of the most significant trials in history. After years of violence, Italy undertook the largest trial to reign in the Sicily-based La Cosa Nostra. The presiding judge, Giovanni Falcone, was assassinated soon after. It later came to light that backdoor negotiations took place within the trial when government officials agreed to repeal anti-Mafia laws and ease prison regulations against Mafia inmates in exchange for halting the excessive killings.
