Hey, perhaps a bit unrelated, but I am trying to run Splahfoam on Ubuntu. But I am receiving the error _tkinter.TclError: couldn't connect to display "localhost:0". Pardon me if this is not the right place to ask, the guy page directed me here. Please guide me to the right place to ask this question.

Doubt!!
Hi everyone, I'm working on a problem statement as mentioned in the attachment. The Re=200 for the inlet. I have kinematic viscosity but didn't got any x(length) Should I assume x=1 and calculate inlet velocity. And should I use bulk velocity (i.e. 2/3 of v_max) to calculate Re at upstream an step

@Sai nihal Kunchakurthy the characteristic length is usually where you see an appreciable change in flow regime for your problem. In pipe flow, it's common to take diameter due to the presence of boundary layer, and in ideal cases, the flow doesn't develop over the length, I think. For an airfoil, it's the chord length. It totally depends on the problem.
Turbulent Times
In my opinion, CFD is a very vast and interesting subject and tool but the one thing which seems to be very enigmatic is turbulence modelling. My question here is quite simple: 1) How would you explain turbulence and turbulence modelling to a kid? 2) Why do we have so many turbulence models and why is it so hard to model turbulence accurately? 3) From an aerospace perspective, does anyone have ideas of How turbulence works in Hypersonics? Or do we even have turbulence there? Would love to see some interesting answers on the same!

I feel like my understanding of turbulence is still rudimentary and near to that of a kid. 1. From my understanding, in the most basic layman terms, turbulence is the loss of fluid flow structure due to presence of friction. Similar to how once we slide on a wet floor, we eventually slow down. In this process of slowing down, different people slide in different directions due to the inherent randomness of the process. 2. From my understanding, turbulence modelling is mostly statistical and a probability estimation. Most models that we use try to use many assumptions to basically get values if local randomness that we have no way to measure. Please correct me if I am wrong here. I would very much like to learn of this point in more clarity too. 3. No idea on this. Pardon me if this is not the answer you were looking for. This is just my, perhaps wrong, understanding of turbulence.

Live CFD Projects to gain Exp
Dear all, I am an undergraduate student from India. I have general proficiency in CFD however I want to learn more, be able to write an entire CFD Code suitable for my applications and become more capable in the same. Thus, I am looking for any internships/live projects in CFD which I can join to get a hands-on experience on the same. Would be great if i could get some suggestions from you all. Thank you!!

@Mark Lohry I will understand the numericals no problem, but that seems to not play a part beyond having the understanding of the numericals themselves. The c++ though, I'll have to look at basics and at least look at a few examples. How will we do this?
