The Blessing of Saying No: Pastor Ed Newton
"For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age." - Titus 2:11-12 In a world that promotes instant gratification and self-indulgence, it can be challenging to say no to the temptations that surround us. Advertisements, social media, and even peer pressure encourage us to chase after whatever feels good in the moment. For many, the idea of self-control and denying oneself seems outdated and unappealing. As believers, we are called to live differently. We are called to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives. This calling often requires us to say no to things that others readily embrace. It might feel like we’re missing out, but God promises to bless us for our obedience and self-discipline. When we say no to the things of this world, we are making a statement of faith. We are declaring that we trust God’s plan for our lives and believe that His ways are better than the fleeting pleasures of sin. This act of obedience is not without reward. God honors those who choose to follow Him over the desires of the flesh. If you ever feel like you’re missing out by not indulging in worldly desires, remember that God’s blessings are eternal and far more satisfying than any temporary pleasure. Trust that He will honor your obedience and self-control. Your decision to say no to the things of this world is a testimony to your faith and commitment to God. Reflect on the areas in your life where you are tempted to give in to worldly passions. Ask God for the strength to say no and for the assurance that His blessings are worth the wait. Remember that every act of obedience brings you closer to Him and aligns you with His perfect will. God will bless you for saying no to the things of this world. Your faithfulness and self-discipline will not go unnoticed. Trust in His promises and look forward to the greater rewards that come from living a life that honors Him. Embrace the peace and joy that come from knowing you are walking in His ways, and let your life be a testament to the incredible blessings that come from saying no to the world and yes to God.

Right now, my biggest temptation is sugar. As a 2 x breast cancer survivor/thriver, I know sugar is not my friend. I’m usually successful in limiting sugar in my diet but sometimes I take a dip/dive in if it’s available. I’m asking the Holy Spirit to supply me with self-control.

Bible reading and reflection: Matthew 24 and 25
The Kingdom of God starts in us. He has awakened His bride. The time is now to rise and stand firm on His word. We will increase our faith and speak His truth over the lies of the enemy. We will let Him do a work in us, trusting in every promise He has made. “For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭ He is our power source. In our weakness, He is strong. He holds the victory, the battle has already been won! Fear has no place in us. He wants to pour out His spirit on us. We can see He is already doing it! Praise the Lord. He is so good! Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 May we watchful in this hour, keeping our eyes fixed on Him and our hearts pure. May we be wise my sisters as we trust Him fully. He is faithful and trustworthy- somebody testify! Comment below. Scripture referenced in the video: Matthew 24 and 25 Genesis 19

Your message this morning reminds me of a song I learned as a child, 🎶“Give me oil in my lamp keep me burning, burning, burning. Give me oil in my lamp I’ll pray, Hallelujah! Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning, burning, burning. Burning till the break of day! Sing Hosanna, sing Hosanna, sing Hosanna to the King of Kings. Sing Hosanna, sing Hosanna to the King!🎶👑
