No audio from my mix buses
Hey, guys. I've been meaning to ask this for a minute but it's been slipping my mind since I found a way around it. When I solo my mix buses, I get no audio. My indivdual tracks solo just fine, but no mix bus solo. I always solo safe my auxes, including the ones for my mix buses. I did a quick Google search on why I might not be getting audio and I read the tracks feeding the bus should also be solo safed, but when I solo safe the audio tracks, now the whole song plays and nothing is soloed... BUT... there are even a few tracks missing. I know this is a begginer problem, but help a brother out, y'all. I use Pro Tools. My send auxes are also solo safed. What I've been doing up until now is soloing the tracks feeding into the aux I want to hear.

put a gain plugin on your mix bus and crank the level. Do you hear anything? Check the output of your mix bus. Where is it going? Perhaps where it is going is getting muted. It sounds like you fixed any problem with tracks getting muted. Or it could be the level coming in to the bus. If you have a trim/gain knob for the bus, crank it and see if you get audio. Disable all plugins on the bus and see if that fixes it.
Breaking through pre-conceived notions about mixing practices
Do we really need glue compression for the mixdown or for mastering? I'm finding that directing my mixing approach based on a program of pre-conceived customary practices can get me stuck in the mud ( or weeds more like it) real fast causing needless delays in finishing projects. The proof is in the pudding as they say. We hear about trends here & there like today's mixes are saturated. So, we conclude that I just must include the Schoepp's parallel saturation trick to finish my mix. Maybe or maybe not. What customary mixing practices have you decided to toss in the trash can because it really got you nowhere in making your mix sound better, and as a result you finished a satisfying mix project in a timely manner. Please share!

How do you get a tight low end?
Seems like having a tight low is super important for streaming platforms to sound pro level. What plugins or techniques do you use to get your low end instruments right where they need to be? Having said that, if anyone can recommend a mastering.com video from their library that covers this, I would appreciate the link. Thanks and keep on mixing no matter what!

@J Es Yes. Forgot about that one. Absolutely! Can we vote twice?😄
Windows alternative to Logic & Studio One?
Got turned on to the layout of Logic today, especially for production. Secondly, finding that Studio One can't handle the workload I" giving it for mixing audio tracks. CPU meter in Studio One hitting red playing at noisy slow tempo while my PC computer @60% capacity with 32 gb RAM ddr3. This is because Studio One doesn't allocate the load of a plugin over multiple cores. So if you use a lot of sends,it will start to freeze up. They say Studio One is cpu driven rather than RAM driven. Heard Logic runs great on just an ssd drive. I have an ipad but not sure if that will be sufficient. Would prefer not having to buy another computer. Looking for a Windows-based clone if you will to Apple's Logic. Does any exist? I have Ableton already, and the scenes screen reminds me of Logic's workfliw in a way, i.e., working with loops Top priority is to find a DAW for mixing right now that is a powerhouse that can eat whatever plugins you feed it in tempo.

@Andy Laird Yes. That's seems to be the way tech operates. I'm not going to pay $200 for an upgrade to plugins I already paid for (@ $30 - 40). What's up with that?

@Mike Bass Sound blaster. wow, that's going back a generation or two. lol. To be honest, this looks all like IT gibberish to me. My already present headache just will not budge to decipher this techspeak. Plust I don't see a download. Cut to the chase, my audio interface manual only specifies WMD or ASIO so I am going to assume it won't work with WaveRT. Through little fixes here & there in Windows mostly, I was able to get the project to play without noise but it slows down on choruses. I disabled another brand plugin (MTM) and playback improved. It sorts or slows down and speeds up like a broken record player. Not sure if I caused that with all the fiddling around and not quite sure where to go to fix it. Moving on to a new project, and hopefully it's all related to this one project. Found a bad usb port on my PC and now there's tape over it. It seemed to work anyway but I'm not using it. Had a wifi dongle in it anyway. Could have been why my internet was a bit spotty at times. Also disabled my windows system audio (Realtek). I'm finding that I'm really going to have to watch out for some of these plugins. PSP L'Otary was another big cpu hog and plexitape (with HD engaged the cpu use doubled). I heard stories of folks with newer gear and they're having the same issue with Studio One. It's this jamming everything through one core/logical process setup. I'm going to try one more time then move on to Ableton and see if that's any better. Time is a flying and this has really slowed down my momentum as well as my mixing project finalization (which has come to an end thankfully).
