"EMP Proofing" Large Electronics on the cheap
@Randall Whitney Brought up some good points in his introduction about needing a way to EMP proof large electronics equipment, but a lot of the "faraday bag" options on the internet dont have the best reviews. One hack I've found for this is "EMP Proofing" large metal office cabinets. Often times these pop up used on facebook market place for $10 or even free sometimes if companies are moving out of office spaces quickly. There's a lot of nuance to EMP; if you guys would like me to go into this further, let me know! I'll do a video.

When using metal cabinets do you need to insulate or isolate the shelves from the exterior to prevent the electromotive forces from reaching your electronics? I understand how faraday cages work because Ive been on jobs that we wear faraday suits, but I have had credit cards stop working because I had them in my pocket, and my buddy fried his iphone once.
Home Power set ups
@Chris J dropped some great knowledge on the necessity of transfer switches. I found this video putting together some materials for setting up home power backups that did a good break down on a affordable home power solution.

@Mike Bledsoe you may run into contractual issues by not relinquishing control over your panels, also I have heard (thats downstream, I dont do LV work past the meter) that a lot of panels are in-between the meter and the house mains. Or worse, before the meter. You most likely have a smart meter which is controlled by your utility. Double check it wont screw you in that front. Again Im a lineman, not an electrician or wireman, so my knowledge is more cursory on that side of the house. With that, I plan on never tying my energy production to their circuit. And think more people should do the same.
Transfer switches
Edit: figured out the vid link. Our cold step apprentice asked me about backfeed today after I was talking about having someone blow up a set of our grounds in Oregon last winter when they turned on their generator. It got me thinking, I dont think I have ever heard anyone explain the WHY you need to have a transfer switch in between your house and your service drop. Also no, just flipping your breakers is not sufficient. This was 100% off the top of my head and Ive been known to get into the weeds without knowing it.

Tribe! These are great for traveling and tracking people and luggage. If you fly with guns, I highly recommend hiding these in your gun case. If you're vacationing, I use one to keep in my rental car to find it in parking lots or on streets. And they're a great way to track kids or family members if you're in a crowded amusement park or public area. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D54JZTHY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?tag=slicinc-20&ascsubtag=9097752e6a6511efa0cbee6d47956b260INT&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I have been looking for good alts for airtags. I would like to be able to tag a few tool boxes and things. But the options for android still pale in comparison to apples dispersion.

@Jeremy M yeah everyone touts them as equals but I just dont trust it to be as good of a passive tracker for expensive tools and trailers.
Welcome! Introduce yourself + what disaster/event are you most concerned about?
Welcome everyone! As you can see, we're still under construction. I highly recommend checking out the classroom tab above. ☝️ There, you'll find an early class I put together for basic preparedness. I also did a live class on "Disaster Planning" over a year ago here in Pennsylvania. I highly recommend turning on "captions." The sound quality isn't the greatest. I want to thank you all! Feel free to share any information on preparedness, disasters, etc. This was created to build community and share ideas and information to help us with what's on the horizon. Im based out of the rocky mountain/great basin area. I am a lineman and I travel full time. I am mainly worried about the rapid devaluation of the US dollar and the civil unrest that is a biproduct of it. I work both urban and rural locations so I see the impact already in both places. Being on the road full time makes me depended on the local economy as well.
