The perserver
It is not the strongest species, or the most intelligent, or the most reproductive species that survives. It is the species that perseverates. --Darwin Hard times come, and you can't do much about them. Bad things happen to us, and we, in turn, do bad things to others. Just look at the war in Ukraine: both sides are full of young people, not much older than us, each fighting for what believe is the right side. Guns, artillery, grenades, are terrifying. We become numb to the casualties of war, because it is the only way for our conscience to live with war's horrors. Here one moment, gone the next. "In war, there are no victors." Yes, this line is overrused, but it is the truth. War is terrifying, and even though I have never come close to one, 2D pixels on my screen displaying the GoPro footage of trench warfare are enough to leave me shocked, saddened, and confused. War, greed, savagery, is the truth that we as a species must live with. In this way, there is a war waging within each of us. This is the price of being the most intelligent, most apex predator on the food chain: when there is no prey to kill, we hunt ourselves. Usually I end these on a good note. Today there is none. Good and bad do not exist after human's wars. Only

Only those who preserve survive. Thank you for another insightful post Kevin. I barely have the words to describe just how horrifying wars are, but you did an excellent job in doing so.

https://www.skool.com/qurios/act-september-2024-test?p=74bc3ffc I have the H14 ACT from this September. I would also recommend that you review the official ACT material and use it as practice to figure out what section gives you trouble and then drill in on those sections. Also, make the best use of the ACT section in the classroom tab here in the Rishab Academy.

@Chetna Sharma I don't have a link to those. The book can be bought at the ACT's website or on amazon.
Why's it so easy to be wrong
Yesterday, this time, I was happy, thinking about everything I was gonna do for the day, it was a weekend after so long and I was really excited. And I wasn't wrong, I came from coaching, I saw him awake at like 2 am his time and we just started talking. "Just 5 more minutes" I said to him for the 100th time. We just kept talking for hours, I didn't even have breakfast, lunch or evening snacks but that was the least of my concern, I was just so happy to spend so much time togather. Fast forward to now, I woke up late with swollen eyes from crying all night and he won't even talk to me. He won't listen to me, he's just really not okay and I know it's my fault and the worst part is, I don't even know what to do. I just wish we could talk like we always do just 1 more time so I could tell him how much more it hurts me to see him that way than everything else in the past, I just wish he could come and say "Hey" with no context in the middle of me texting at midnight and then we could forget about sleep and everything we have the next day and just start talking again. I wish he could see what I would give to get him to be happy again, I wish he was here, beside me, just talking. I wish he'd eat M&Ms and save the red and browns for me. I don't know what to do if we part ways like this and it's my fault, I don't think I can ever forgive myself if that happens. Oh god, I just wanna cry to him and hope he'd magically solve all my problems.

I don't know what exactly is happening Rudaiba, but I can always get better. You could try and reach out to this individual one more time to explain what happened and try and fix the situation. If you don't get a response, leave the situation alone for a day or two. Sometimes a little time apart is useful and necessary in a relationship. After a short amount of time has passed, try to reconnect, explain, and hopefully reform your bond. I've had a strong bond broken within a short couple of weeks because I couldn't reconnect that bond. If this friend has as strong of a relationship as you describe it to be, you should be just fine. You got this Rudaiba.
Does Sadness Really Dominate Happiness?
Ok, today was one of those days that I really don’t like to have, and I don’t even know why I have them. I was sad, but I can’t pinpoint a reason for being sad or mad. There might be a cause, but no clear reason for how I’m feeling right now. Like, idk. My day started as one of my best days—finally getting the thing I’d asked for months, even if it was at 4:40 AM. It was awesome! The morning went well, but then something happened (the cause), and from that point on, I lost my grip. I don’t know why I’m feeling sad or mad; there’s a cause but no reason for my reactions. But that overwhelmed me really badly—so much so that even multiple pieces of good news couldn’t lift my mood. From that early morning win to getting into something I wanted, nothing seemed to help. And now, even nine hours later, I still feel this way. I don’t like it, and I don’t know how to stop it because I can’t even identify what started it. Idk, does sadness really dominate happiness this much? "Remember when I used to joke about being a tiny kid? Now I feel smaller than ever, hiding in a luggage of my own thoughts."

Honestly, I know exactly the feeling you are talking about. I’ve felt the same thing on numerous occasions before. So, here’s my advice. Stuffing your emotions in doesn’t work. A lot of times, the best thing you can do is tell it to other people. Find those around you that you can trust, that you can rely upon and depend upon. Then tell them your issues and grievances. Just speak out your ideas and get them off of your chest. A lot of times, those close friends, family and parents will know what you are going through and can tell you the right things to help. As for some actionable advice, I don’t know how big of a bad new this event was, but all news will come to pass, good or bad. The most important thing you can do is choose how to accept and remember those times. I hope this helped Chinnu. If you want to talk about it privately, feel free to do so.
Quotes of the Week 1
Quote 1: “For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it.” - Amanda Gorman, The Hill We Climb Quote 2: “We can never give up longing and wishing while we are thoroughly alive. There are certain things we feel to be beautiful and good, and we must hunger after them.” - George Eliot, The Mill on the Floss Quote 3: "Do not be fooled by commonplace appearance. Like so many things, it is not what outside, but what is inside that counts." - The Peddler, Aladdin Quote 4: “To laugh at yourself, is to love yourself.” - Mickey Mouse Quote 5: “Don’t rush and never settle. If it’s meant to be, it will be.” - Ashton Kutcher Quote 6: “We need women who are so strong they can be gentle, so educated they can be humble, so fierce they can be compassionate, so passionate they can be rational, and so disciplined they can be free.” - Kevita Ramadas Quote 7: “Ideals are strengthened by the challenges they endure.” - Courier Six, Fallout: New Vegas Quote 8: “You mustn't allow yourself to be chained to fate, to be ruled by your genes. Human beings can choose the kind of life that they want to live. What's important is that you choose life... and then live.” - Naomi, Metal Gear Solid Amanda S. C. Gorman was born on March 7th, 1998 and is an American poet, activist, and model. Her poem which is being quoted was recited on January 20th, 2021 during the inauguration of Joe Biden in Washington, D.C. Her recitation of this quote also marked her as the youngest individual to give an inaugural poet as she was 22 years old. The poem was commended for its wording and praised for its message of unity. Gorman’s other work focuses on oppression, feminism, race, marginalization, and African diaspora. Gorman is also famous for being the first National Youth Poet Laureate. Gorman’s poem describes America’s political state as of the 2020 election and also references other pieces of media like the Bible and Lin Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton play (which Miranda praised Gorman for). Her poem was also described by critics to have significance even after the election.
