Identify and Diagnose
Beech Leaf Disease
Beech Leaf Disease is has been found in every county in Pennsylvania. This disease was first identified in Ohio in 2012 and is caused by a microscopic nematode that damages leaves while they are in buds over winter. Once leaves emerge in the spring, they remain damaged and will result in reduced vigor and over several seasons can result in the death of the tree. Often leaves will fall off giving the forest a very open appearance. Since this disease is fairly new, effective treatments are fairly limited. The most effective treatments can be used on individual landscape trees, but are cost prohibitive on larger scales.

How does the Beech Leaf Disease compare to Beech Bark Disease in terms of speed to kill a living tree? I'm guessing the leaf disease takes longer to effect overall tree health?

Time for TMP!!
In an attempt to make it to the next TMP Level, I am going through the checklist. One of the requirements is to make a post explaining how I intend to get the necessary classroom training hours. I do believe I have all the necessary hours, but to complete the checklist, I will post my intentions. I have gotten most of my hours from books. Whether I was studding for my ISA or Applicators Listens, I have read a lot of material. Videos and the internet are very useful resources. I will continue to use these resources for continued learning.

There are so many good resources to consume. Sometimes it's overwhelming where to begin TCIA Magazine has great articles, ISA website is full of great material, and of course if you are new to the industry a Jeff Jepson book is a great place to start
Blue Team!
Just a reminder that the end of September will be advancement exams for the TMP. Get with your TO this week to review where you're at currently and what is needed to move forward. Take action! We want to see you all succeed

Knowledge and Action
For those of you who value learning over action (this often includes me): You will likely watch a video, attend a seminar, buy an online course, or start a new endeavor, only to get super pumped and excited, then do nothing... The way you overcome this in order to win is that as soon as you hear something which is applicable to you, your business, your family, or your life - go take action immediately! Everything you learn is worthless if you decide to just keep it stored inside your brain and never USE IT! Pick ONE thing. Focus on doing that one thing until you see results. Then go back and learn some more.
