Noticed this tree on site when I had a free moment. The entire tree looked like this… what are your thoughts.

What is wrong with this tree?

If you were asked to identify this tree, and what was effecting the leaves, what would you tell the property owner? Is the tree going to die? Are these eggs? Why are there holes in the leaves? Tree located in Somerset, PA

let's say you're at your extended family's house, and they find out you do tree stuff. They have a concern, and they are determined to get your opinion. Because you are a tree nerd, you want to see what's going on. They take you to the tree and this is what pops out first. what are your first thoughts, and how do you find out what it is if you don't know? PS: This is a type of pine tree.
