Listening More Deeply to the Body
Over time, Iā€™ve found that listening more deeply to the body requires slowing down and becoming attuned to our own impulses and what we call ā€œInspired Action.ā€ This kind of listening isnā€™t about reacting to everything around us but about connecting with the sensations and cues that come from within. When I create space to pause, itā€™s almost like tuning in to a subtle language thatā€™s been there all along, just waiting to be heard. Interoceptionā€”our ability to sense whatā€™s happening internallyā€”is something Iā€™ve learned to strengthen with practice. Itā€™s a skill, almost like building a muscle. For me, this has meant: - Turning inward ā€“ intentionally tuning into my emotions and physical sensations as they arise. - Using mindfulness practices ā€“ like breathwork and body scans, which help me notice internal signals and build a more connected relationship with my body. In Body-Based Breakthrough, we integrate these practices to support a deeper understanding of our internal state. This awareness has helped me uncover patterns in my responses, like recognizing recurring thoughts, feelings, or sensations that come up in reaction to certain triggers. Iā€™ve also discovered that focusing on movement that feels pleasurable and expansiveā€”rather than pushing through discomfortā€”deepens my connection with my body. When I approach movement with curiosity rather than intensity, I start to notice more of the bodyā€™s subtleties and a gentle sense of ease that flows from that awareness. This approach has helped me feel more fluid, responsive, and aligned, both during B3 sessions and in everyday life. Creating a safe space to listen has been key. Here are some practices that support this: - Dedicated practice space ā€“ a place for B3 sessions, free from distractions. - Journaling ā€“ capturing insights and reflections as they arise during practice. - Self-compassion ā€“ reminding myself that building a relationship with my body is a gradual process. For anyone on this path, I encourage patience. The journey of deepening body awareness isnā€™t something that happens overnight; it unfolds gradually. But the more I listen, the more I trust that my body holds its own wisdom, and thereā€™s always something new it has to teach me.

Funny but Iā€™m sitting in the IR sauna and about to do my daily somatic brain retraining actually. A vital part of my day as well.

None of them actually.
šŸ’Ž Welcome! Please Introduce Yourself šŸ’Ž
To kick things off, please comment below introducing yourself. Let us knowā€¦ #1 - Who are you, where are you from and who do you work with? #2 - What do you want to get out of being in this community? #3 - For fun what do you like to do? #4 - Drop a photo of your office space or where you like to do work from. I'll go first... #1. Hi friends. My name is Matthew Cooke, from Boulder, Colorado. We certify coaches, and mental health professionals to add a somatic or nervous system tool to their business, called Body-Based Breakthrough. Simultaneously helping them get "unstuck" professionally, as well as personally if they experience anxiety, imposter syndrome or burnout. We use a combination of breathwork, moving meditation, journaling and coaching. We teach it, and certify our trauma-informed practitioners over a 3-month period. #2. I want to connect with new friends, I want to serve our existing clients and I want to help people expand their impact, their belief in themselves and about what is possible in terms of generating cash flow and I want to have a ton of fun! #3. I like to hang by our creek here in Boulder, hike mountains, nerd out about the nervous system, read books about it, and go to coffee shops. I also love me some yoga. #4 - I love my space...but probably my favorite is working on the ground right behind this station...I love moving throughout the day...

#1 - Hi! I'm Folake from Atlanta GA. I help women with MS improve their quality of life by having fewer symptoms and flares which improves functioning. I'm an internal medicine physician turned MS recovery expert. #2 - I have somatic practices for myself and it's been transformative, so I'd love to learn more about somatic coaching to benefit my members. #3 - I don't do much for fun as a special needs mom but that is about to change. #4 - My ADHD office space is not worthy of a share but I live and breathe embodied practices and my meditation corner is right next to my sit-to-stand workstation. Picture that! šŸ¤£
