Question re: Trauma Signature Table (Week 2, Lesson 5)
Bruce, I'm probably over thinking this - but I had a question related to the table that allows you to summarize CABs, CUBs, Feelings and Story When Triggered. I know it would be helpful for me - and maybe others might benefit - if you could provide a few examples as models in terms of how you would complete this table, so that the connection between the pieces is clear. I think the CUBs and CABs are straight forward, but the Feelings and the Story When Triggered are not for me. As an example, if a CUB is "I don't deserve love" then a CAB might be the habit of seeking acceptance and attention to an unhealthy degree from people I want to love me. The emotions that would come up would be things like fear of rejection, anxiety, loneliness, etc. But the Story When Triggered - how is that different than the CUB? The (false) story that comes up is I don't deserve love (which is the CUB - the story that was fabricated as a result of the feelings). That's the story that happens when triggered. I'm wondering if we're actually trying to see the trigger itself here (which leads to the CUB as a response). So in this case, as an example the trigger might be being attracted to someone but then feeling a sense of dread or inferiority. The other element I'm wondering whether we are looking to identify is where was the source of this story / CUB to begin with? If I feel I don't deserve love, the root of that story/belief may be that my mother was conditional in her love and I didn't deserve unconditional love. Anyway, I'm trying to draw the distinction between the various elements, so any direction or perhaps a few examples might add a little clarity. Thanks Bruce.
