Is taking on 300k in debt a horrible idea to open a coffee shop?
This Question came from Reddit. Comment below with your thoughts! Question Okay we have a great location picked: only drive thru one a major commuter road w/ space for a small retail shop inside. I have a great supplier who works with other small coffee shops in the state. I have the plans laid out and everyone thinks its great idea. But for renovations/supplies/ect its coming out 300k. Is that a horrible idea? I have reached out to local agencies and haven't found grants and I don't feel comfortable asking family. I'm torn between you only live once/this is my dream and omg I want to throw up.

He's got a lot of problems with his question. His question is literally going to get him lot's of incorrect answers and at best a few good ones. Someone needs WAY more background and info to properly give out advice. What is the price of the business, what is the revenue and ebita, what are his complimentary skills that he will use to add value, what and who will he need to hire to fill gaps in his skill? How passionate and knowledgeable is he about coffee and knowing and being in the biz? Can't stop thinking about it or only doing it for the money? #1 he needs less help and less money to compete. #2 he'll need to have at least a great operator and someone else to help grow it or it will eventually most likely die. The best advice someone can give him is to go tell him not to buy shit, he's way to early, he's not even asking the right questions. Tell him to go buy and read Buy Then Build by Walker Debel something. Tell him to make a plan from that book and see if the coffee shop fits within that plan, if it does, great then justify it inside of the plan. Next hire someone who has done it. Post on a forum asking for help and will pay by the hour no matter the price. He will get plenty of help to make sure he has a good plan.
Hi - sold and acquired, looking to do more.
Hi everyone, I currently run www.superiorsupplementmfg.com and www.mauibath.com, the first one is my startup from 8 years ago and the second I purchased last year. 200k net, 800k purchase, 300k cash, 300k seller note 5% 6 yrs, owner stayed in for 20%. Sold my previous company www.superiorlabs.com to pe in 2017 that was doing a roll up and that's what introduced me to the world of M&A. Currently looking for anything in the health space d2c or b2b manufacturing of dietary supplements doing $750k to $1m ebita.
