OneLake Storage and Premium Capacity (P1)
Hello everyone! Since I couldn't find an answer to the following question and since the online documentation (in my opinion) is unclear, I want to take advantage of this community to understand the following point: Suppose a customer has a workspace with a Premium P1 capacity, a developer is able to create Fabric items (e.g. Lakehouses, Warehouses, Notebooks, etc.). Let's say we need to create a Lakehouse: do we need to buy (extra) storage to manage data? The answer should be "no" because I tested it (I was able to create it and ingest some data) but I couldn't find anything on the documentation online regarding the storage size. With a Premium capacity, is there a default storage limit? Can it be extended? As I said, I couldn't find anything concrete online. Maybe some of you have the answer I was looking for 😀 Thank you all!

I sent an email yesterday to our contact in Microsoft, and this was the answer: ------ Hi Julio - The maximum storage space for fabric objects in a P1 premium capacity workspace is 400GB. This limit applies to the entire workspace and includes all datasets and other objects stored within it. The P1 tier has a maximum memory limit of 25GB for each individual dataset within the tenant. Here's some additional information on semantic model memory limitations and usage. What is Power BI Premium? - Power BI | Microsoft Learn. We talked about standing up fabric capacity either now or during your renewal anniversary date. When you see F64 referenced in the documentation just remember P1 is the equivalent of a F64.

5k members, 1200 threads and now a 2nd team member
Hi everyone, things have gone fast since I launched this community back in January 2024!! I still remember my proud post when we reached 50 members (see below). Well, recently we crossed a previously unimaginable milestone of 5k members. Thank you to every one of you that chooses to spend your time here learning Fabric and engaging with the community. So far, we have had over 1200 conversations/ threads about Microsoft Fabric (the search bar contains a wealth of information!). I hope it has helped you learn Microsoft Fabric. The best thing is that this is just the start, I will continue to invest in this community because I can see it's making (at least a small) difference. But a community of this size is difficult to manage alone (especially as now I spend a lot of time in Fabric Dojo too). As such, I'm delighted to announce that I've brought on board Maleek - @Mubaraq Abdulmaleek to support yourselves (and me!) around the community. Maleek is hugely passionate about Fabric (he was one of the first members of this community back in January!), DP-600 certified and eager to learn as much as possible. He'll help new members get onboarded, help members find stuff (course content/ previous answers to community questions), and generally help make sure you have a great experience here. Great to have you here, Maleek! Soon, I'll share what I have planned for this community in 2025 and beyond. Thank you so much for being a part of this community we're building!

Beta DP-700 exam opens today - become a certified Fabric Data Engineer
Hey everyone! In case you missed the announcement at Europe FabCon Microsoft are releasing a new certification pathway, this time for Data Engineers. If you pass the DP-700 exam, you will become a certified Fabric Data Engineer (Associate). Today is the day the DP-700 exam enters the Beta phase. What does this mean? A Microsoft beta phase exam, normally: - involves a heavy discount on the Exam price - asks you to provide feedback on the exam and the questions contained - some of the questions are 'less refined' let's say, so you have to expect this! - normally you have to wait several months to get your results More links: - DP-700 Study Guide - Exam homepage for the DP-700 (book your Beta exam, when it becomes available). So who is looking to take this exam? Are you going to take the Beta exam? Or wait until the exam reaches GA?

'Migrating' from Power BI Premium to Fabric Capacity
Hi everyone, I know a lot of you are facing the requirement to move from Power BI Premium capacities, to Fabric Capacities, because of the sunsetting of the Premium capacity licensing. This blog post by David Mitchell (Microsoft) - walks you through a few different options for you, including a manual switch, and the use of semantic-link-labs. Let me know your thoughts, is this something you're planning?

I was thinking Microsoft migrated automatically from P1 to F64. I would need to review this process ASAP. Thanks, Will for sharing it.

I have a lot of questions about this topic. The main one is how to create the Fabric Capacity. In the image below, we have a P1 with 16 cores (I had 8-cores, but in the last negotiation I think Microsoft increased it to 16 cores. I need to ask IT about this). Do I need to click on "Purchase" a Fabric capacity? it suppose that the same P1 can be used with F64. @Will Needham your comments about this? Thks in advance.
