Study Anxiety
Who else have anxiety reading the scenario based questions multiple times and not understanding what the correct response should be? Everyone I have reached out to for advise talks about the mindset but how does one get this mindset. I know Andrew talks about this alot but, my word, I am struggling to understand and I am worried now that I started this journey and will chicken out when the time comes. Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated. Especially if you have been in this position before and got through it.

I completely understand your anxiety—I’ve been there. My background is in medicine, so I’ve faced numerous standardized tests over the years. For example, the Step 1 exam is an 8-hour test filled with scenario-based and second/third-order knowledge questions. What helped me, and what I believe can help you, is focusing on building the right mindset. You do this by first learning the material thoroughly and then reinforcing it through practice questions. The questions not only test your knowledge but also solidify the concepts you've just learned. Over time, you’ll naturally start thinking in the way the exam requires. For instance, I’m transitioning into a new field, and much of the terminology I initially used was rooted in medicine. Gradually, by studying and practicing, I’ve started thinking more like a project manager and less like a healthcare provider. Another example is when I hear the word “crash.” In medicine, I immediately think of a patient crashing, like a Code Blue situation. In project management, however, “crashing” refers to adding more resources to accelerate a schedule and meet a project deadline. I hope this helps even a little. Developing the right mindset is key, and I’m still working on fully figuring it out myself. You’ve got this!
