Recommendations for November SAT Score Boost
Hi, all! I am a rising Senior from a South Texas border town who will apply to Johns Hopkins, Duke, Brown, Georgia Tech, Rice, and Texas A&M this fall. I am looking to increase my SAT score from a 1420 to a 1520-1600. What free resources, besides Khan Academy and Bluebook practice tests, do you recommend? What study schedule worked for you? Thank you!

@Rhett Zhao !!
An Average kid needing help
Hello ya'll, I am a rising Freshman at my high school next month and I would need some guidance and help! Background: I am from a low income household and attend a public school in the mid-Atlantic region of the US. My school is pretty competitive, like we send 1 or two Ivy league students yearly. I have a deep interest in STEM with Physics, Math and Computer Science as my favorites. I don't have a ton of time because my family owns a family business so that takes up like 2-4 hrs on weekdays and 4-6 hrs on weekends Planning: I feel like I am too late in planning for a compact and competitive high school life for college admissions so I am trying to make the most of what I have left. I am not yet in high school but looking at my common app, I feel like I'm lacking in EC and Awards. I am a pretty top tier student I would say and I am definitely in the top 10% of my class. Solid contender for Valedictorian (Only lacking out because first and second place were home-schooled and they were able to take an extra year of world language before me). I am also a strong candidate for the presidency (lost by <10 votes). Obstacle 1- Going into high school, I plan on prioritizing Robotics and the state math league. I also want to participate in science fairs for physics or math but I am rather stuck because physics 1- needs large equipment and 2- being able to do projects require a lot of knowledge of the field and from the complicity of this field, I don't think I'll be able to learn enough in the limited time of high school. I have reached out to a professor and he has provided me a full year of physics in college but I can't understand it because I am only at an Algebra II/Trig level. Obstacle 2- I know that volunteering and community service should also be a part of my college application but I want to do something "meaningful." For example, a student going into med would most likely do work at a hospital or nursing home but what about a student going into CS? Physics? Math?

@Rhett Zhao of course! To have a verified account on LinkedIn, you must be at least 16 years old. I am unsure if it varies from state to state depending on the legal working age. When I made my LinkedIn, I did not have an above & beyond resume. LinkedIn was essentially like a résumé builder for me ! In the meantime, I highly recommend keeping up with your activities and accomplishments with a template that isn’t too busy (there are a few different websites like Enhancv and Resumizer, Google Docs also has a few!).

@Rhett Zhao , in terms of community service, I highly recommend joining or starting an Interact club, which is the high school branch of Rotary. Being a part of Rotary is something you can continue throughout your life, which is what I enjoy most! Rotary was created to bring ethics and service back into businesses, but clubs expanded from only US businesspeople to include people from all walks of life in over 190 countries. At my dual enrollment high school, I am Vice President of the university branch of Rotary called Rotaract. As an officer, I organize meetings and plan service and recruitment events. It has been super fun so far! Plus, a lot of Rotarians are experts in their field who want to pay it forward to the next generation.

Research Leadership Opportunity by Rishab Jain
Hello, my name is Rishab Jain, and I am the President of the International Research Olympiad. We have spent weeks assembling the following: - Funding to grow and scale - Social media templates - Club meeting slideshows - Curriculum/materials - Our large network of tens of thousands of students - … and much more In other words, we will make it extremely easy for you to create a research club at your school, or affiliate an existing club with us. In our 23+ page guidebook, we will walk you step by step through the process of creating a research club at your school. Link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P7lshfP_WtwIy_rqoCk3_5aAbd9ftlj-3pH4FTC0LrU/edit?usp=sharing This is an EXCELLENT leadership opportunity for you -- we will help you reach thousands of students in your local area. But, be fast: Thousands of students will be starting research clubs in the next few days, and many students from your own school will fill out our forms. We will operate on a first-come-first-serve basis. This means that if two students apply from the same school to become President of their Research Club, we will honor the first student's request, and encourage the second student to work as a Co-President or other leader in the club. Any questions? Ask in the thread below!

@Faiyaz Aman I highly recommend asking community members or local university and college affiliates for support. Maybe you can start a club for your city!
