Let's Introduce Ourselves (Reply In The Comment Section)
Hi everyone, I've outlined the scope of this community in a separate post titled "Introduction - This Community & Its Purpose!". I suggest you read it if you haven't yet. This post is about getting to know each other better. For this reason we're asking each new member to answer a few questions. The purpose of these questions is not only to introduce yourself to the community, but also to share your experiences and aspirations in music. By understanding where we're each coming from, we can more effectively learn from each other, offer meaningful advice, and create collaborations. Remember, this is a community of diverse music enthusiasts, and everyone’s story and skills are valuable. The answers you provide will help build a solid foundation of understanding and respect, and will also assist us in tailoring the resources and discussions to meet everyone's needs and interests. 1. Could you please introduce yourself and tell us where you're from? 2. How long have you been involved in songwriting or music production? 3. What inspired you to pursue songwriting/music production? 4. How have you been developing your ear training skills so far? 5. What is one artist that has greatly influenced your work? Why? 6. What genres of music do you typically work within? 7. What specific challenges are you currently facing in songwriting, music production, or ear training? 8. What's one accomplishment in your musical journey that you're particularly proud of? 9. What are you hoping to gain from this community? 10. Do you play any musical instruments? If so, which ones? 11. Do you have any experience with the UseYourEar method? 12. Can you share a piece of advice or a tip that helped you in your musical journey? Let's get the conversation started by replying in the comments below! We can't wait to learn more about you and your musical journey.

My name is Lisanne, living in the Netherlands. In my youth I played classical piano. Due to shoulder pain I had to stop that for a long time and started to focus me on singing in a jazzchoir that stopped a few years ago. Now I am joining an online choir and I hope to join again a muscial class for beginners next schoolyear. Excuse me for my English, I am not very good in it. I am an amateur, and just wrote a few songs for myself during the last 10 years. In a sightreading course I started a few times to write a melody on given simple children song lyrics. I am busy developing sightreading and ear training skills, by a software program (sight reading), by use your ears (just in the beginning fase), and by the sightreading course for beginners I followed (just a small start with simple children songs). I don't have a specific artist that inspires me or a specific genre by writing melodies. Due to my classical background I like melodic music, like old french songs and popsongs in the Dutch classics. Finding a good rhythm with a text is the hardest part for me when I try to write a melody on a piece of text. Also rhythmical dictation is not my strongest part. In this community I am hoping for tips that can inspire me. The sightreading course and use your ears help me to develop my inner ear. The tonic-solfa notation method helps me to quickly write down musical melody ideas on a piece of paper. The tonic-solfa notation method combines rhythm and melody in text (d for do, m for mi, etc) and using punctation for the rhythm (- , . ; :). I use my own dialect of it sometimes when I like to write down specific chords (b.e. C3+E4+G4+C5). Then I can put it in a staff notation program later.

@Leonardo Caminati Thank you for your answer and the invitation. When I write something for myself the lyrics come later, after the melody. But in the sight reading course I followed, you had to write a melody on a given text.
