When you are constantly overwhelmed by extracurricular after extracurricular and honors course after honors course it's hard to put your 100% into what you do. When it seems hard to focus when you are having conversations and also thinking of "bigger" things like global warming, your research project or getting into your dream school. But here's why putting your focus into what you want to do matters. It's because it builds discipline, understanding, and helps you with your learning. Giving everything your 100% is a lifestyle. And it doesn't mean constant pressure to always hit a home run. Rather, it means always trying your very best and being focused on what you are doing. When it comes to self-improvement, you should be aiming for an A+ everyday (without biased grading), and be doing everything you can to reach to your full potential. In life, everything is important and unimportant at the same time. It's what you make it to be. But while talking to your grandmother a little longer or having a deep conversation with your best friend without your mind wandering may not seem like much to you, but giving them your full focus makes them feel so much better. And in turn, helps your relationship thrive. Similarly, daydreaming in class instead of listening to a lecture can have various consequences on your grade, and you can end up having to restudy the entire lecture at home. Not listening to instructions could cost you a thumb-literally when it comes to biology class. So how can you improve yourself to put your 100% into everything you do? And without getting burnt out that is? The answer is simple, to enjoy it! It's why doing the extracurriculars that you love can make you happier and taking the courses that you love. But even if you don't enjoy it, learn to like doing it. It sounds hard to suddenly do it, if you condition yourself to believe it, you can definitely do it! I have definitely been a victim of doing clubs that I don't love and think of clubs and APs when I'm talking to my parents and siblings. I still am actually! But I'm slowly changing for the better. That's why I hope we can make this change, together.
