Intro - Tierra Design - How we started (Yearly Recap)
Hello everyone I am the owner of Tierra Design, which is an outdoor living and landscaping company located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We (me and my husband) opened our business in May 1st of 2021. My husband has been in landscaping for year so he does all the installs while I run all the aspects of the business that is not seen. We live in a city that's population is around 300,000. This is what we have currently done to grow our business by year from machinery, gross revenue, systems, etc. We normally have at minimum 2-3 people working on every job, that would be my husband plus 1-or 2 other individuals. 1st year (2021) 72k Sold - Left my full time Job - Set up business entity - Started our Google page - Set up Facebook and Tiktok pages - Bought a 1500 Chevy Truck (Paid in full from my savings 16k) - Researching about the Industry (As I knew nothing) - Went to Crux Lon's Outdoor Bootcamp to help me learn more - Got CRM - Synkedup to help with quoting to make sure we are a profitable business 2nd year (2022) 90k Sold - Bought a 2018 2500 Truck to better haul (got a loan $531 monthly payments) - Set up Instagram - Set up a NEXTDOOR page for the business as well as a landscaping group - Drove 8 hours away to go to a free design class to learn how to design - Got Realtime Landscape Architect, a design program, that was the most bang for our buck - Shadowed another company for 9 days - Started taking steps to get website initiated 3rd year (2023) 172k Sold - Bought a 13k Dump trailer (got a loan $30 monthly payments) - Set up our 1st Website (before the beginning of the season) cost 3k for a one page site - Ran Facebook ads - Got one lead from it - Shadowed another company for 4 weeks - Started up in the Hardscape Mentor Group 4th year (2024) 300k PENDING - Set up another newer better website (that I own and host) cost was 4k has like 6 pages - Started SEO for Google and the website - Bought Starbucks Cards for my vendors and employees (hardscape, & nursery) - Ran 1 month of Facebook ads with no leads from it - Paid off Dump trailer - Bought a small skid loader (Bobcat S70) in October (paid in full 16k)

@Max Floyd I am happy about the jump also! I am hoping that year 5 is the year that I will pay myself since initiation every dollar has been focused on the growing of the company.

@Max Floyd I read that it’s normal to grow a business for a business owner to take pay themselves after the growth of the company has come to a place of consistency. Which was mentioned around year 5. That I believe is my goal. I have another stream of income that I have been using which is taxes. I have been doing that for a very long time. I am hoping to let it go in the future as it is so demanding. And in March/April when it starts to get nice I start having landscaping clients call while in still very much occupied in taxes. I’m pretty positive I will be able to pay myself next year. However I love not having lots debt and that was one major reason I didn’t take a paycheck. As I could live off of what I made in taxes and save our money for the machinery that we need as in our industry there is a lot of overhead.
