8 Tips for Acquisition.com's Scaling Workshop ๐Ÿš€
asked me: "I'm going to Vegas for the 2-day event at Acquisition.com. Any tips for how I can prepare?" Here are my notes and tips to be prepared for the Scaling Workshop in Las Vegas.
After you sign up, within a week or two of the date of your event, you will receive a survey and pre-work to complete by email. Plan an hour or two to answer these a few days before you attend since the numbers you will gather will be important for you to have on hand during the event. In addition to this, I also printed out any other business details I felt might be needed, so I can have this on hand.
Effectively, you will be performing a valuation of your own business during the event. You'll need your Total Revenue, EBITDA Margin, LTV to CAC Ratio, Year-to-Year Growth, to complete the VAM (Value Acceleration Method) assignment. It's much easier if you have these numbers prepared ahead of time.
They will be sending several emails in the days leading up to the event with logistical details, like the location of the building, and so on. Plus, special reading: Black Book and Behind-the-Scene Playlists.
The TLDR is the building opens at 8 a.m. Bring your ID to checkin. The room is cold, so bring a jacket. Don't solicit and don't take pictures or videos. No computers/laptops are allowed either. You'll get a badge at check-in. Security in the Acquisition.com HQ is strictly enforced.
Bathrooms are the reverse of a Taylor Swift concert. It's no problem for the women's restroom, but the lines for the men's restroom get very busy during the breaks. Don't bring food or drinks; they take really good care of you.
In the last 48 hours, they will send emails with the workshop Schedule and FAQs, plus extra material on Never Skip Dessert and Las Vegas Unlocked. If you have any questions, just email workshops@acquisition.com.
Ok. Here are my 8 Tips to Prepare Yourself for Acquisition.com's Scaling Workshop in Las Vegas:
1. Prepare to Network ๐Ÿ“‡
First, be ready to network. It's a room filled with other successful businesses. Have cards ready. I prefer to use the LinkedIn QR to connect quickly.
2. Manage Your Time โฐ
The event goes quickly. Don't bring your work with you, answer emails, or take business calls during the event. Just focus on maximizing your learning.
3. Make New Connections ๐Ÿค
Every break, breakfast, and lunch connect with someone new. Itโ€™s tempting to stick with people you know, but making new connections is more beneficial.
4. VAM Day Opportunities ๐Ÿ’ผ
If you sign up for VAM days, you get to network on the evening of Day 1 with Leila and Alex Hormozi and the others who sign up for the additional trainings.
5. Take Notes ๐Ÿ“
You can't take pictures or videos. You can't even bring your laptop, so have a notepad and pen ready. On the plane back, synthesize your notes for yourself.
6. Research the Team ๐Ÿ”
Review the team's page on Acquisition.com. They are available during breaks and in the roundtables. Remember their names and pictures. Don't just prepare your questions for Leila and Alex Hormozi. Prepare them for these subject matter experts as well. You'll get more personalized help from them. For example, if hiring is your constraint, Frank Lofaro is the Director of Recruiting, and he is around answering questions. He is super helpful and resourceful.
7. Stay Open-Minded ๐ŸŒŸ
Stay open-minded. I came in being definitive that my constraint was churn, and that's what I talked about for 2 days straight. When I asked my question to Alex Hormozi, he challenged my entire belief and made me re-question my entire notion of what my constraint was. Because sometimes, as Alex Hormozi says, "We question all of our beliefs, except for the ones we really believe in, and those we never think to question." - Orson Scott Card
8. Acquisition.com's Core Values ๐Ÿ†
During the event, live by Sincere Candor, Competitive Greatness, and Unimpeachable Character. This creates an amazing event experience for everyone.
If you have any other questions, please write them in the comments, and I'll be happy to expand on this. Thank you.
