How a Ghost Business Got Clients—Can You?
The other day, I went for drinks with a Greek friend of mine who runs a tutoring business in our neighbourhood. Over a couple of drinks, she told me the wildest story about her first business—one that made me realize something powerful about getting clients.
She used to run her tutoring business out of a small property on a busy street. It was perfect—tons of foot traffic. People were constantly walking by and stopping in.
But here’s the twist: before it was hers, the space used to be a Money Mart. And every now and then, people would walk in trying to cash checks.
After years of working from that space, the owner decided to sell the property, and my friend had to relocate. She set up shop in a new area, but—get this—she left her old sign up at the original spot because it was too expensive to take down.
And you know what happened?
Even though the building was completely empty—just a “ghost” business front—she kept getting clients! Calls poured in, thanks to that old sign still hanging there. No advertising, no effort on her part. Clients came, just because they saw her name and number.
If a ghost of a business can keep getting clients like that, so can anyone, right?
Curious where everyone is hanging their sign up?
And what are you doing to make it visible?
