I have learned a lot from Fix-The-Mix but I am a very methodical person and would prefer a set order of operations when mixing. In one of the videos I watched, Jake approached the mix by addressing each frequency range, starting with low end then going to mid range then high end. In other videos he just jumps right in and just addresses the problems that he heard from the listen through in no particular order. Then in the most recent one he started with vocals first for some reason (which I didn’t like lol). Definitely noticed that spatial processing is always after everything is fixed and enhanced.
That being said, does anybody have a preferred method of operations? For example, should I do things in waves (address frequencies for all the tracks, then address dynamics for all tracks)? Should I go by frequency range (address frequencies & dynamics in low end, then move to mid range, then high end)? I like structure and I feel like the workflow is too messy/unorganized if I just try to mix based on what ever problems I’m hearing and write down. Would really love to hear anyone’s recommendations. Trying to watch more videos to see Jake’s typical workflow but he seems to change it up
