Anti-fouling Glove - A Short Story
Have any of you heard of an anti-fouling glove before? Or, as some call it, an art(ists) glove. Basically, it's a glove that fits snugly on your hand, and covers the last two fingers. Purpose? To act as a guard, or buffer, between your hand and the surface you're working on. So a really helpful tool for those working with pencil, or graphite, which smudges if you rub or touch it by mistake while working on a piece. Back in 2019, when I was still doing a lot of my art with pencil, this was a huge problem for me, and I did a quick Google to see where I could find an anti-fouling glove in my country. Not a single art store sold them here, so I set out to design and create my very own glove. What a process! 🤩 I sat with one of Cape Towns most well-known pattern makers, and he did a phenomenal job of taking my glove sketches and working it into a custom made product. Three months later, we had a really cool glove, I slapped my logo on to it, and I popped them into one or two local art stores 💪 Because the concept of an art glove isn't massively well-known here in South Africa, they didn't sell as well as I'd have hoped, but I am sitting on some stock which I like to use as giveaways via social media. So it's actually a win anyway! >>> Have any of you ever thought of using something like an anti-fouling glove? Do you see the practicality of it, and would you consider trying one out? Really keen to hear your thoughts as an artist 😀
