Someone may have already suggested this, but have you thought about finding leads on Nextdoor? Nextdoor is a neighborhood community app that allows neighbors to communicate and get to know each other. You can also create a business page. There's always someone on there looking for all kinds of services. Over the years, I've personally hired people on Nextdoor for roof repair, fence repair, lawn maintenance, plumbing, and a/c work. You can use Nextdoor in conjunction with knocking on doors. They are strict on advertising in the general comments area, but if someone is asking for help, you can definitely offer your services. What's also nice about Nextdoor is that you have access to your local area, so you won't have to worry about responding to someone who is outside of your local area.
You should be able to find the app on both ios and android, but if you have trouble, just enter nextdoor.com on your browser to join.
