URGENT Looking for Team mates
Modeling the Future Challenge (MTFC) hosted by The Actuarial Foundation. Are you? - Based in the United States - Taking junior or senior high school level maths class - Cares about environment and earth - Have some experience in data processing, analysis, logical reasoning, critical thinking etc. or willing to learn IF SO PLEASE REACH OUT to team up! ❗️ Send me a short description about yourself and your eagerness to join BEFORE SUNDAY (Nov 10) In this challenge, teams of 5 develop mathematical models and do data analysis to predict how a new technology or industry could impact the future. There's no cost required to sign up, and winners can receive $55k in college scholarships, attend Modeling the Future Symposium to learn from professionals, etc. and should be a fun and valuable experience anyway. Just to give a quick idea about the deadlines since everyone got a pretty packed schedule, 1. Scenario phase submission is due by Dec 8 2. Project Intro Videos are due by Feb 2, 2025 3. Project Visual Highlight due by Feb 23, 2025 4. Final Project Report due by March 2, 2025. Read more about the challenge here. https://www.mtfchallenge.org/faq/ The registration closes on Sunday.

URGENT Looking for Team mates
Shh... I STOLE this from the A-Z Masterclass
Hey everyone! I made a quick video to highlight some of the exciting things happening inside the masterclass. If you're curious about the questions others like you are asking and how we’re helping them overcome the same challenges, just comment 'Science Fair' and I’ll send you the full document with this week’s Q&A! *** I just reached my DM limit. Pls DM me the word science fair instead of commenting*** https://www.loom.com/share/192b83121b694331b8cfc9237ca8e5e1?sid=5a08833e-29f9-48ea-bdfc-5e71d0bbb6a2

Founding vs. leading a club
Should I try to become the leader of an existing club or start a new one? It's hard to start a new club at my school, especially since they already have many options for clubs, but they only align partially with what I'm interested in (chemistry/data science).

If there's already a technology club, then it's not feasible to open a new data science club (because it's a subset of the main category). I think the school authority will also not be inclined to give permission to open a new one. So If you become a leader of an existing club, you can leverage the established structure, fame, impact, etc. that your past leaders made in that club. You also have the opportunity to do activities that align more closely with your interest in chem or data science. In the case of starting a new one, you do have more freedom to design the structure but you need to figure out a club topic that is currently not running in your school (which might be vastly different from your interents again). Also building it from scratch is more harder in my opinion, so working in a framework that's already build and refined in the past years is easy to work on and make it more of your interest specific gradually once you become the leader.
Presentation must always be at it's peak
So, I've went to a ton of Olympiads, science fairs, congresses, fests etc etc and I mainly work with Robotics which means, no matter how hard I work for it, there is always a chance for last minute betrayals. But interestingly a lot of my winning projects fall into that category. Almost all of them actually. So, I sat down and noticed a pattern, whenever my project worked it's best, I presented it with an average speech, taking about a minute or so explaining each feature. However whenever a part of my robot wasn't working, I took out some extra time to explain exactly what and how the feature was supposed to run which made the feature sound even more impressive then it was since building a robot isn't as easy as it sounds and it really brings out what went behind that. Another thing is I always tried to make up for a faulty project with a positive presentation, whatever happened, I'd keep smiling and explain the solution, there could be a murder going on behind me but I'd still present with my peak presentation voice and not just for judges, anyone and everyone that saw my project, even outside the event, I will present it to them in the same manner. And that kind of perfected the speeches without even trying or memorising and since I had already faced all sorts of possible reactions, it's basically like reciting a story when the real judges come.

Such a detailed and informative post! I'd love to know more about your past projects/robots you made if that's possible.
Introduce Yourself in this thread!
Hey, my name is Rishab. I'm a student at Harvard College studying Neuroscience. I am most interested in Neuro x AI, and do research at Massachusetts General Hospital. I started coding when I was 6-years-old, making Android apps with my elder brother. When I was 13, I created a deep learning tool for segmenting the pancreas from CT and MRI scans, and was named one of TIME's 25 Most Influential Teens and America's Top Young Scientist. During COVID, as a freshman in high school, I made a Discord bot that reached 3M users, which taught me about product design and marketing. In my junior year, I started working on ICOR, which won Regeneron's Young Scientist Award at the International Science and Engineering Fair and was my first research publication. As a freshman at harvard, I am currently building ICOR further, and have also been involved in the education space, introducing research to young students. I am the chair of the International Research Olympiad β€” which reached over 3,000 students in its first year, and founder of the Qurios Institute β€” which help teaches research to young students. The Qurios team is currently building sciencefair.io under my guidance to help cultivate youth to get involved in science research through projects.
