How valuable is research if it isn't submitted to science fair?
Hi! Here's another post about me stressing about my life 😅 I've been working on a Personal Project for one of my classes at school, and it's taking up most of my time. I want to do research as well, but I don't have an idea yet. If I compete in my regional competition my abstract would need to be submitted in February. So, how valuable would my research be if it isn't submitted to a science fair? Also, I'm pretty passionate about biomed sciences, but I don't have access to a lab. What are some examples of research in that field without the use of a lab? Thank you :)

I would say that the magnitude of what your research could accomplish depends on you. Your research can take you as far as competing at regionals all the way to winning grand prizes at ISEF or opens doors to amazing research opportunities. If you’re deeply passionate about science, I think research competitions is a great way to explore how far you can get. As of projects that require no fancy lab equipment, I would recommend on focusing on projects that revolve around the methods rather than the results. For example I did 3d bioprinting research and another middle school kid made a budget friendly printer for under $400 in materials. Even though they did t have access to the multiple thousands of dollars of equipment, they focused on refining a method rather than focusing on achieving a new result.
External Storage for a CNN project??
Hi everybody, I'm having a bit of trouble now as I need a dataset for a machine learning project using image classification and CNNs and I need a dataset that's over a 100GB in size and my computer only has a capacity of 56GB without drivers or basic functions so I was wondering if I could use an external hard drive to fix my issues?

Yeah, I think a SSD or cloud storage could help
Help
Can someone explain to me how to start science fair/research? Like how do I learn how to research and get a mentor? And then how do I apply for science fair to possibly get a chance to compete at places like ISEF? There’s no science fair in my school so where do I go? And where do I get a research mentor from? I’m so lost please help

I think the stratagy may differ for the type of mentor you're looking for. If its a mentor just to ask for advice on your research, I think you can try email authors from the research papers you read. If you're looking for a mentor to join their lab, I think its best that you have a project with proof of concept or sign up for a research program. What type of mentor are you looking for?

What next
I have finished my background research for isef and am confused on what to start next as it seems like a lot. What should I do now?

Yeah, I'd recommed starting a research plan. Create your research question and start listing out all the materials you will need to carry out the experiment
