@Dawn Kenny I like the gelocity pens, but my son has found that they sometimes smear when he writes with them. I guess it's the get vs ink? The gelocity pens have wonderful, amazing colors and are very bright and vibrant.

@Dawn Kenny I'm sure I have some of those pens - I have far too many pens! - I'll check to see if he's tried them. It's always good to have a back up brand! Thanks for the suggestion :)

Have you looked around on Etsy? I found a fabric cover for one of my journals there, and it had pockets in the inside and an elastic closure, and wasn't too pricey. How thick is your journal? I now use a Traveler's Notebook system for my journals and lists - it's an outer cover (made from leather, but there are lots of options) with bands to hold smaller journals to the cover, and I have an inner pocket and a zipper pouch that fits inside it as well, so I can add small items or notes. I've seen them sold at Barnes & Noble, but lots of options online too. I also have the STM zipper pouch for when I'm going to be away from home longer and want a few extra items. It's big, but secure with lots of pockets inside.

@Frances Brady There are some designs from Scotch Tape that are thick enough to cover writing. I think it's still sold at Staples and I think Target has some.

I use post it notes. There are so many sizes and colors, even some cute designs, so it works for me. Or stickers.

I don't keep my personal journal pages anymore - I've had people read my journals far too many times. But sometimes I'll have an entry I want to keep, so what I started doing was to either use my phone to take a scan or a photo of the page(s) and I upload them to a password protected external drive. That way they are there if I want to look back, but not very easy for prying eyes to find them. Sounds extreme, doesn't it? But overall, when a journal is full, I'm done with it. If I really like the cover, I'll remove the pages and then re-use the cover for something else - create a new journal, make it into a make-shift Traveler's Notebook, etc... I burn the pages when I can, but if I don't have a place to burn them, I shred the pages. I read a book a while back where the character was a life long journaler, and kept all her old journals, but had a lockbox to keep them in, so she felt safe keeping them. I like that idea! Might try it out some time. Right now, we move a LOT so keeping 'stuff' is generally a problem, and I've had so many keepsakes ruined, it's better to keep a picture on my computer than the physical object.

@Dawn Kenny If you remove the pages from the cover of a book or journal - but keep the spine intact - you can attach notebook signatures to the spine with elastic bands or ribbons, etc. It's not as neat as the store bought ones :) but I've had a few journal covers that I just loved so much, I couldn't part with! :) The spiral bound journals I've repurposed by removing the pages and spine, then using paper the same size with a few of the hole punches matching up and then using something like binder clips to hold it together. I love working with things like that. When my kids were in school, we created 3-ring binders from cereal boxes, too. :)
