Raising a Glass to Raising Kids - Dad Workshop Idea
Hey there, guys. Alrighty…I’m ready to start implementing ideas I’ve gained from this course and want to share an idea I’ve been working on and would very much like to get your feedback. I’m looking at creating a free monthly interactive workshop series aimed at parents (specifically targeting dads) called…I guess…“Raising A Glass To Raising Kids.” The idea is to bring dads together for some real talk over beers while tackling the challenges dads face...with each month a different focus. Each workshop would run for about 1.5 to 2 hours, and I plan to run them using the Lightning Decision Jam (LDJ) method to get everyone involved and engaged. We’ll just be using a whiteboard, marker and post-it notes…I’m thinking Friday evenings could be a good time slot since it would give dads a chance to unwind and do some dad bonding after the workweek. I've designed a poster for the first event, which I’m aiming to have happening Friday, 1st November, at a local bar (still need to discuss this with them), and as mentioned the idea is to do the workshop every month with a different focus at each event. I’d love to hear your thoughts on: - The concept: LDJ for dads/parents—does this kinda workshop resonate? - The poster: What can I improve or tweak to make it more appealing? - Any tips on creating a fun, engaging environment for these types of workshops? - Anyone have any experience doing anything similar?

Hey there, guys. Thanks for all the feedback—it’s really helpful and I appreciate the different perspectives, especially on the imagery, wording, event timing and leaving time for conversation. To give a bit of context, there’s a WeChat group of 500 dads, but it’s been more of a chat space without many opportunities to meet up. The organizer has been looking to get more social activities going, and pubs/restaurants seem to resonate with the group. So, the goal is to build a sense of community through a fun and relaxed workshop that helps dads connect while tackling some common parenting challenges. I hear the concerns about the baby beer bottle—while it won’t be to everyone’s taste, it’s meant to grab attention. I’ll definitely clarify in the messaging that non-drinkers are welcome (I’m a non-drinker myself!). I’ll be adding ‘Calling All Dads…’ to the headline to make it more direct and clear. And I'm thinking, 'Dadhood on Tap: Tips, Laughs, and Pints for Dads Who Care' for a subheading. So thanks for that, guys. As for the icebreaker, I’m really liking the idea of getting the group to interact early on. Name tags are a must, and for the icebreaker, I’m leaning toward either a ‘First Jobs’ conversation —something light and nostalgic— or having them draw each other as pirates as Maria suggested. I think both are a good way to loosen everyone up. About the Friday evening timing, I see how that could be a challenge for some. My thought was that Friday night might be a chance for dads to unwind a bit after the workweek before diving into the weekend family routine, but I’ll definitely test that with the group to see what works best and how it can be evolved if there's a demand for more of it. Thanks again for all the insights and I'll share an update once I get it done.

Hey there, guys. I wanted to share how the first Dad workshop went... ...and it turned out really well! We had six dads attend, which proved to be an ideal number as it kept everyone engaged in a single conversation without splitting into smaller groups. We kicked off with a "First Jobs" ice-breaker that really got everyone talking, then moved into a Lightning Decision Jam style workshop. Taking @Maria Halse Duloquin's advice about how parents mainly want to chat and escape, I kept the structure loose - I'd set up each step of the process but then let conversations flow naturally before moving on. What was meant to be a 90-minute session ended up running for about 2.5 hours, with folks hanging around chatting for another hour afterward. One interesting challenge was getting everyone comfortable with forming "How Might We" questions - I had one example ready but realized it would be helpful to have more examples on hand for future sessions. The topic worked really well since it was relevant regardless of the kids' ages (we had a great mix of dads with children from 4 months to 6 years old). For the next workshop, I'm thinking of putting up three topic choices a week in advance and letting the group vote on their preference. I'm also planning to try this format out with moms too, as I think it could be just as valuable for them.
📍Where is everyone from?📍
Hello Facilitators👋 I'm really curious about where everyone is from. I'd love to make this a mega post where we can see how diverse the Facilitator Club community is. Who knows, you might find a lot more people in your area than you thought! Once I have lots of answers on this post, I want to make a nice graph!
