My Journey into Podcasting!
A couple of months ago, I took the plunge and started my very own podcast, "The Business Origin Story Podcast"! 🎙️ The idea stemmed from my networking efforts on LinkedIn, where I met numerous businesses that weren't quite ready to invest in video business cards or videos in general. I still loved chatting with these entrepreneurs and wanted to create valuable content while building trust. A podcast seemed like a perfect win-win solution! I've been using SquadCast.fm, similar to Riverside FM, integrated with Descript for editing, and it's been a fantastic experience doing it virtually. Eventually, I'd love to transition to a studio space, but for now, building hype virtually is the way to go. This approach has helped me forge strong relationships and tap into my guests' networks, never aiming to turn them into clients directly but to build genuine connections. So far, I've released seven episodes, with the eighth one already recorded and awaiting editing. I usually edit in Resolve, then use Descript for creating short clips. I provide the full episode and clips without my branding to my guests. Each episode is around 15 to 20 minutes, although some conversations run longer. All episodes are available on YouTube @arcturuscinema and Facebook. LinkedIn allows up to 10 minutes, so you can catch the first 10 minutes of episodes on my LinkedIn page. If you have any questions about my podcast journey, feel free to reach out. Peace!

@Travis Johansen Hey thank you so much! That's an accurate assessment, I have been gaining more traction on linkedin that's for sure! The 2 biggest benefits is that the folks who are commenting or linking my podcast posts are easy to connect with and have a conversation with since they got value from my content. The biggest benefit that I literally just 2 days ago implemented with the help of my business coach is to pre-sell reel cut downs before I record the podcast episode. It's a no brainer for them, because the already getting the full episode for free anyways and usually don't have time to chop it up into reels themselves. So far I have sold 1 $200 package for 8 branded reels. The next step is to build a landing page for the podcast, and to build an automation on GHL to send nuture emails to podcast guests who didn't get reel packages.

@Dave Lisowski hey thank you so much! I have been using descript's new AI tools to make short-form content from each episode, and so have a nice back log of reels now. I'm going to schedule out some of it today. I have been posting the full episodes on my YouTube.

@Dave Lisowski the smart clips is one of my favorite new tools in descript, it's definitely on par with Opus, especially if you make your own templates. I also really love the automatic multicam which I'ved used to save me time editing my podcast.
Something Cool I Learned from the Q&A Call Today
I thought this was such a great, simple strategy to optimize cold outreach that Ceebz and Dave broke down. 1. Upon finding a businesses website I'd like to work with 2. Go to linkedin and send a connection invite to the CEO, or someone high up on the ladder who can get me connected 3. Upon acceptance, send a BRIEF (1-2 Minute) video message introducing myself and inviting them to a meet & greet 4. Rinse and repeat Slight variation would be using a service like "Hunter" to find internal emails and send them an email directly with the same type of video message. Super simple, but that's what makes it great. Thanks guys!

I love the way they unpacked that strategy, because it reminds me of the KISS rule from school: keep it simple smarty.

@Dave Lisowski Haha I know! I learned that from a friend recently and absolutely love it!
I closed a deal today! I'm back baby!
Howdy, everybody! I am happy to report a #dealclosed for a $1,800 deal for covering a 2-day speaker competition including basic editing. How did it happen? I was approached by the prospect at the end of a networking mixer that I attended a couple of weeks ago. I met him on LinkedIn about a year ago, but he wasn't needing video for his events then. So how did the sales meeting go? The first meeting went well, I laid out all the options for covering his event. He had to cut the meeting a little short, so he asked me to send over a proposal. After sending over the proposal I followed up with him on Monday, and we set a follow-up meeting today, which went smoothly. I gave him 3 pricing options, and he ended up choosing the middle one. He said he could pay the deposit during the meeting so I sent over the contract and invoice and he paid it. So what now? Sometime tomorrow or Friday I'll be scoping out the venue with my photographer. The client wants me to instruct the stage crew on the lighting requirements for the video. On Friday I am joining the client's team on Zoom to get everyone on the same page. On Sunday I will be getting some b-roll shots of their informal meet n' greet. Then on Monday and Tuesday, I'll be shooting the event with my team. What was your biggest HolyShift moment, compadre? I would say the biggest #holyshift was that you must embody that future successful business owner version of you, and do what they would do. I learned you have to see rejection as redirection and adopt the mindset that everything is working out for your benefit no matter what. I put in the reps by putting myself out there with my new business podcast and going to networking events. All while being detached from the outcome. Anyway, if you have come this far, thank you for reading. Hopefully, someone will get some value from it! Thanks again for having me on the panel @Dave Lisowski & @Ceebz Gerard I really appreciate it!
