Hi Dragos, unfortunately I'm sick with high fever, so I wont participate today. Have a great meeting you all!
How do you guys deal with criticism?
Hey all, I have a question to you all as to how to handle criticism. I work in a company and the dev team is relatively small (circa 12) and one of the senior devs, who is very knowlegeable is also very critical. He will openly says stuff like "this code is crap", "this makes no sense", "are you not paying attention", etc. He likes to point fingers, is very very critical and sometimes plain rude. He is actually a nice person in general, and also knows a heck of a lot, as hes been in the field for good 13 years in the same company. I try to not take things personally and know somehow this is just his personality. But when you spend time doing something and presenting it to the group and he says in front of everyone that your idea makes no sense at all, this can be very discouraging and it boosts the impostor syndrom. I wonder how other people cope with this situation, in case they do face it... Any inputs are welcome :)

Hi @Bogdan Nedelcu @Taís Massaro @Alejandro Eyquem and @Bella Gladman : thank you guys so much for your deep and detailed thoughts on that. It definetly gave me some really actionable tools moving on. I'm sure I'm not the only one going through this, and that was also why I asked this question. It's nice to put him in perspective, but also have some tools (including talking to him directly, not taking it personally, and also not aggreeing with his feedback immediately) to handle this situation. He is also like that with other people in the company and I never realized that he being 13 years in the same company also says sth about him. :) It's hard to have this conversations, but I will talk to him, I think it's a good first move :)Thanks so much and have a great weekend!!🫠

Hey Izaak, thanks a lot for your input. I still didnt manage to talk to him, but I will when we meet in a month or so. Before that, I probably wont be working with him so, that I can keep my sanity :D

"what is your current salary" interview question
Hey, I was coming to the monthly call but now I can't make it. My biggest question from my current job search is how to handle the "what is your current salary" question? It came up again today and I don't know what the impact of it might be in terms of putting a limit on the salary they would offer me? Should I be honest? Is the question even legal? Can it be checked? Anyone got any advice on this?

That's a great question, if I have the chance, and its not brought up, I will ask it for you

Hey @Huw Fernie I asked the question and yes, its legal to ask and also can happen. But I liked @Dragos Nedelcu suggestion that you focus on what your salary range is and what it is that you are willing to get, so that the focus is not on what you currently earn, but rather what are you willing to negociate or not. Dragos, please feel free to correct me if I got sth wrong :)
