OnTester()
Does anyone have any experience with the OnTester function? I see in the documentation there is a way to optimize for balance max AND drawdown min, for example, but I don't understand it.

I have used the OnTester() function to create my own optimization target function. This way you are no longer limited to the default selection of the optimizer. I typically optimize by the System Quality Number (SQN) since this number correlates to a smooth equity curve. Isn´t that what we all want?

@Jacoob Ducky Well, as I said, for me using the System Quality Number has done a very good job. High SQN ratings always correlate to smooth equity curves. And while you cannot optimize for max. SQN, you can do so if you calculate SQN in the OnTester() function.
Don't insult me: but what about Grid Systems?
It's so inspiring when a new community platform launches that it makes you want to throw all your ideas into the room and hope for helpful responses. I'll hold off on that, but there's another topic (besides the one I've already posted) that I'd love to get a response on from the community: Grid trading systems I know many will immediately say, "Just stay away from that. That's the devil's stuff! Is it? Almost all systems that have a wide name recognition are based on a grid algorithm. We all know that grid systems - when the market runs massively against you - incur massive losses. But does it have to be like that? Is it not possible - by analyzing e.g. the current market phase exactly - to determine when a grid system should be used and when it is better to switch it off again? Or - to open an additional field - could artificial intelligence perhaps help us to turn grid systems into "harmless" systems that constantly generate profits without the disadvantage of massive drawdowns? Who of you has already programmed grid systems and would like to participate in this discussion?

I agree with that completely. For me, the most important thing is to know when the environment is suitable for a grid. I believe that most grid trading systems do not address this problem properly. My idea is not to rely on technical indicators to explore this environment, but to apply statistics and ML to identify phases in the market where a grid system can thrive.
Bring Ideas together
Hi to all, hi ro René Nice idea to make this community. If we bring our deas together, we might develop a few EAs that can make a difference. By now I am partially succesful only. For long term tests I always have inacceptble drawdowns. Best sucess I have using EAs for manual strategies. If I see a good setup coming I enable the EA to execute the orders. That helps me avoiding to open a position too early, to overtrade, to be too late. Liek that I will not take every signal, just the ones which show setups, too complicated to input in an EA. Then I move my SL and TP according to the market situation. Results are better than fully automated trading and better than fully manual trading.

Partially agree, but here is the fact: if we are into automated trading then we also need to analyze our "manual" intervention. Find out what causes us to terminate a trade against the EA. And then let this get into a rule. Hard wired. Note: I´m a firm believer in the benefits of automated trading against manual trading.
How to Select a Profitable Portfolio of Trading Systems
I don't know how this community will organize itself. But most likely it will have to start with someone suggesting a topic for the others to join or share their thoughts. If that's how it works (Rene, please comment), then I'll give the community some food for thought from my personal area of interest: Imagine you have a portfolio of, say, 50 automated trading systems running on a demo account. If you look at the equity curves of these systems (e.g. on myfxbook), you find that some systems perform well and others do not. Our goal now is to select the systems you want to include in a portfolio for live trading. What will you base your decision on? What performance parameters will you look for? How will you deal with the fact that you will need to replace systems from time to time? Of course, I have some ideas about this, but let me let this sink in first. Does this problem occur to some of you as well? Have you had similar thoughts? How do you think the problem can be solved? I look forward to reading some comments!

Welcome
It is finally here! This was requested so often.. A place where we can talk about programming and trading. The aim is to work on automated trading strategies together. The more members the better. If you have an exciting project or are facing a problem, then you are welcome to post it here and benefit from the expertise of the more experienced programmers. I will focus on the programming part and help with your coding problems. But you can also discuss your ideas or talk about already existing EAs (mql5 programs etc.) with the other members. Let us share our experience so we can all benefit. Have fun in the group! :-)

Thanks for bringing up this community, Rene. Happy to share my experience and collaborate in one or the other programming project. I´m very interested in starting discussions around the use of AI/ML for automated trading systems.
