Q&A
If you could pick one MLB pitcher (past or present) to get a training session in with, who would it be and what would want to ask them?

Two guys I look up to in the bigs right now and watch what they do on the field is Zach Wheeler and Shane Bieber. Think they are guys who just go out there and get the job done every 5th day. I would talk to them about pitch shapes, grips, and what they think when throwing each pitch as I feel I throw similar arsenals as them.

Personally am a huge fan of reverse lunge and deadlift for the lower half focused groups. Working on being explosive with heavy weight. Upper body I think pull-ups are really important along with benching which is really slept on as many of us have probably been told it isn’t beneficial as a pitcher. I personally feel much stronger and better when I frequently bench as long as the form is correct.

I feel that the biggest thing for me to see the steady velo jump is to stay healthy and know your body. Learning when it’s ok to take a light or “recovery” day of throwing if that’s with a football or just a short catch play. Knowing your body and listening to it will keep you on the field longer and will allow you to see those steady gains.

Another take of that is to know that every throw does count though. As pitchers our job is to throw so for those 15-20 minutes or however long it takes to throw should be what you’re focused on for that time. This I feel will also increase velocity as your putting your full effort mentality into every throw.

It was already mentioned but recently I’ve been a huge guy of throwing on the run, acting as if I’m fielding a ground ball, and changing arm slots. I feel as if this not only gets my arm in sync and going but also my lower half as I’m putting it in different positions to deliver the same outcome.
Intro
My name is Jace Trautner and I am a right handed pitcher at Lipscomb University, a D1 program in Nashville Tennessee. I’m from Tampa Florida and have played baseball my entire life. I was a catcher all growing up until my senior year of high school I converted to a pitcher. I am currently a true junior here at Lipscomb as I attended Indian River state college for my first 2 years of college. Looking forward to this and working with all of you guys to get better!
