Don't look for validation, try this instead...
Yesterday, beautiful reader of this letter “Ella“ sent me: -- My biggest roadblock is having the courage to put myself out there. I am afraid of the judgment online and from people who know me. It also seems like a lot of responsibility, but it is the path I have chosen. If you could talk about tips to overcome this, I would appreciate that very much! -- Instead of keeping this private... I thought: "Hey! Why not share my reply to all the other beautiful readers! (yes that's you ;))" So here we are. Let's start this off with a lil' story... 10+ years ago, lil' young Euan dreamed of being a YouTuber. But everytime he'd record something, he felt as if the voice was off, or the sentences weren't correct, or something along those lines. And that was a problem because he thought: "What if someone I know see's this and makes fun of me?" From that point on? It took me 8 years to start creating content. The only regret I have is not starting sooner hhaaha! You see... If you fear judgement from people who know you, you haven't yet realized that they simply won't see your content (unless you go mega viral, but at that point why would they make fun of you). AND if you fear judgement from rando's online? They're gonna die one day. You'll probably NEVER meet them in your life. There aren't as many "haters" as you might think online. But the biggest one of all... Who cares? You gotta realize that every single human on earth only pays attention to themselves. While you are thinking: "Oh... They might judge me" They are thinking: "Oh... They might judge me!" Do you see how pointless stressing about this all is? It leads to nowhere. Plus, creating content is the single most incredible thing you can do... EVER. Yes you'll fail a lot. Yes you'll get stressed a lot. Yes you'll wonder if it was the right call. WE ALL DO! But I literally can't put into words how incredible life becomes when you land on that thing you love so much, that you just wanna keep writing about it all day.

A few weeks ago, a member of our paid community said: -- I know what I have to do, but I struggle to do it. I'm not sure if it's my schedule, planning, or discipline that's the issue. Can you show me how you go about planning your days and content? -- So I went about showing my planners, content schedule, etc... But nothing did the job. He was still as confused. You wanna know why? Because systems aren't always the issue. Yes... They are fundamental to making progress. But there's one big thing that comes before them, and applying it makes the difference between success, or failure. Think about it... If you have systems but struggle to use them, then what's even the point of having them? This brings me to the main idea of today's letter: Video Games. Now you're probably thinking "huhhh, video games? Aren't they bad for you?" In some cases yeah... But you're thinking about the wrong type. The greatest shift I've ever experienced in my digital journey was realizing there’s no difference between a game like Fortnite, or a game like social media. In the common "video games", you press a combo of buttons on a keyboard that results in the desired outcome of winning (or losing if your enemy knows better combos). The same goes for social media. All you're doing is learning & using combos. You see... 90% of people are willing to spend 10k+ hours pressing the same button over & over in a video game to gain stats (or playing the same map until they know it like the back of their hands), but aren't willing to do the same for their success. And the crazy part? Both take just as much effort, time, and knowledge. So from now on, I want you to adopt the video game mental model. Let me explain... When you play a video game, you play it for the sake of playing it right? You don't want it to end. You just want to play. This is how you should approach online biz. Play it for the sake of playing it. Stop thinking about the results. Focus purely on playing at the top of your ability.

How To Avoid Perfectionism As A Writer (Writer's Block)
Perfectionism is public enemy #1 for writers… I used to hate posting because I wanted my writing to be perfect. Now I realise why. It came from a fear of being seen as inferior. For months, I wouldn't dare post on social media, for fear of being ridiculed or rejected- what if people I know found the content? I didn't want to be judged or receive criticism since it would feel bad. The root of perfectionism is insecurity- secure people don't care about being perfect. They're just happy being who they are, and doing what they can. It's enough to just put in 100% effort, without needing to "win" or be seen as perfect by others. Perfectionism blocks your creative juices and paralyses you into a perpetual state of "almost finished." It'll cause inaction and writer's block made of titanium that you just can't seem to make a dent in. Nonexistent content can't perform well- if you don't produce content, you won't get anywhere. "Perfection is the lowest standard you can set for yourself." - Tony Robbins Perfectionism comes from these three things: --- 1. Comparisonitis I used to compare myself to everyone else further ahead of me. It was soul-crushing. Why was I so unhappy? Because of envy. Envy is the root of all suffering. Nothing is perfect when compared to something else- the only real kind of perfection exists in just being, without needing to compare yourself. Everything is unique, and perfect in its own imperfect way. Comparing yourself to others creates misery, and disempowers you. It isn't fair to compare yourself to others- they're in a different position, body and stage of life to you. "Don't compare yourself with other people; compare yourself with who you were yesterday." - Jordan Peterson That's not all: --- 2. Fear of Judgement/Failure Perfectionism is rooted in fear. Fear isn't a sign you're in the wrong place, it's actually a sign you're on the right path to growth. Fear was designed to keep us alive, but now it's there to keep us stuck in mediocrity.
