Lets grow your audience
You must see yourself as a business, as a brand if you want to live as an artist. Think of Salvador Dali. The man had an image, a vibe, a mystique. All of this was calculated. “The Ramones knew what they would look like before they knew what they would sound like.” Lets fuckin’ go, y’all!! The BEST way to grow an audience today is to start a YouTube channel. You know more than you think you do — and people will learn so much from you. Who is your audience? It’s the YOU from two years ago. Hell, six months ago. Start a YouTube channel and document your Hero’s Journey. Watch the video below, and create your YouTube Channel. Post your first video on a topic only you could teach. Make it sloppy, make it real. Fuck perfection! Say yes to doin’ the thing. Post your video below so we can learn from you and cheer you on. We will offer feedback if you like, but the important thing is You Did It! Punk Rock lied to you https://youtu.be/hj4HalxlIrQ

I needed to hear this. I've always shied away from terms like "business" and "brand" as I always thought they would compromised the "purity" of the artwork. It is time for me to embrace a new mindset. I am the creator of my work. I will treat it with the same care and spirit no matter if it is a "business" or not. But, I do want to make money doing this, so I have to change. I already have a YouTube channel where I post all of my albums. I recently decided to start posting more "behind the scenes" content and live recording sessions. Maybe I will also give a stab at the talking head videos as a way to engage more? It's intimidating to me for sure, which is why I have never done it before. But I have been producing music for 10 years now and have 2 degrees, surely I can offer something. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwqNre9HL07I8EaBCa06EIg

@Alec Hawkins @Mitchell Pluto thanks so much y'all!! That one was made solely using turntable samples from classical records. It came out on tape on this great Bulgarian label, Mahorka. Filmed my first talking video today and going to share it on the channel soon. I want to eventually write a book on sound and listening. I think making videos exploring these concepts will help cumulate my ideas for it as well as offer something interesting for viewers.
