Studio Superstars: Day 16 | How to Network
Create meaningful connections in your industry by focusing on making friends, being genuinely interested in others, and being helpful. Lesson Overview: • Understand that networking is about building relationships, not just finding work. • Learn how to make a lasting impression by being social, helpful, and interested in others. • Explore the benefits of in-person networking and the impact of building genuine connections. Lesson Content: 1. Shift Your Networking Mindset: • Concept: The key to effective networking is to approach it with the mindset of making friends and being genuinely interested in others. While your goal might be to find work, your focus should be on building relationships. • Exercise: Reflect on past networking experiences. How can you shift your approach to focus more on building friendships and less on selling yourself? • Reflection: How does changing your mindset to making friends impact the way you approach networking opportunities? 2. The Power of Being Known: • Concept: A mentor once told me, “It’s not about who you know. It’s about who knows you.” The goal is to develop a network of people who think of you when opportunities arise. • Exercise: Consider how you can increase your visibility within your network. What steps can you take to ensure that people remember you and bring you up in conversations? • Reflection: How can being more social and engaged help others remember you when opportunities come up? 3. Being Social, Helpful, and Interested: • Concept: The best way to network is to be as social, helpful, and interested as possible. Engage with others by asking questions, providing thorough answers, and offering encouragement and feedback. • Exercise: Identify one online community or in-person event where you feel comfortable engaging with others. Commit to actively participating by asking questions, sharing your knowledge, and supporting others. • Reflection: How does being genuinely helpful and interested in others change the dynamics of your networking efforts?

Networking is something I want to improve in! I strongly agree that networking should be about friendships and helping people, and not just business. However, I believe there are avenues and methods with better yield than others. I would genuinely love to befriend and help everyone, but we all have limited time to put food on the table. I struggle with identifying which spaces these would be, which makes it difficult for me to schedule my time accordingly. Volunteering and socialising are great, but I'm not at the stage of my life where I can spend as much time as I like on activities that help little on my career. I usually hesitate to share this pragmatic experience of mine, but I hope that someone can relate to this struggle and maybe I can get some advice. (:

@Zach Goodfellow This is really insightful! I especially love (2) where we can network while learning something useful, so it's killing two birds with one stone. I will be looking forward to the next modules for marketing! Are the modules all here in this platform under the classroom tab, or am I missing some stuff? And thank you so much for your response and help!
The Impact of SEO & ASO
🎮 HOW TO SKYROCKET your game’s visibility without spending a dime? 🚀 SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and ASO (App Store Optimization) are powerful tools that can help you attract more players and grow your community. Here’s how you can change the game (pun intended) by leveraging these strategies. For SEO, start with keyword research. Identify the popular terms your audience searches for and use these keywords in your game’s website content, blog posts, and social media. Create quality content that engages and provides value to your audience, like tutorials, behind-the-scenes looks, and updates about your game. Build backlinks from reputable websites to increase your site’s authority and improve your search ranking. ASO is honestly just as important. Use relevant keywords in your app’s title and description to improve its discoverability in app stores. Ensure your visuals are high-quality; attractive icons, screenshots, and videos can significantly impact download rates. Encourage satisfied players to leave positive reviews and ratings since high ratings and frequent updates boost your app’s ranking. By focusing on SEO and ASO, you can effectively increase your game’s traffic and downloads, building a loyal player base. Start optimizing today and watch your game grow! 🎯💥

Where can I learn more about SEO for websites (specifically, I'm using Wix for an online art portfolio)? I have seen several tutorials, but they are generally quite confusing to me.

@Zach Goodfellow Thank you for the well-thought response! I'll check out the hubspot lesson. I've had a website up for years, and it served well as a place where I show my works in a consolidated manner, but it would be amazing if I could actually utilise SEO to bring in leads. It doesn't help that I don't know many other people/websites doing similar things! If I'd like to reach out to you for some direct questions/advice, which would be the most convenient way for you?
Gratitude Thread
If there’s anything I’ve learned in going through life and pursuing scary shit like building a business for yourself, it’s that gratitude is an absolute cheat code. Giving yourself a few minutes every morning to just express gratitude for what you do have in your life will absolutely change your day. Whether you talk to god, the universe, your muse, or just talk to yourself, give yourself a minute to pick out a couple things in your life that you’re truly grateful for. I promise after a few mornings you will feel a shift in your daily energy. I’m grateful for all of you that have joined our little community, and grateful to be learning for you all as we grow.

Hello everyone! I'm Ricket (Zorkxa), an illustrator specialising in stylised character art. I have an interest to move towards working in the game development field, but my opportunities and experiences have been mostly focused on individual projects and media production. I'm glad to also have developed a suite of ancillary skills such as animation, graphic design, and writing. I'm confident to be a valuable asset to a growing team due to my wide range of skills and flexibility!
What do you feel is the biggest obstacle in your way right now?
A lot of times, as we work towards building our business, we can feel stuck and lost. (To be honest I had a bout with that feeling this morning. lol) What I find really helpful is taking a second to sit and really analyze what is making me feel stuck. What is the actual object that is keeping me from moving forward. Can I label it? Can I picture it? Can I easily describe it to someone else. 9/10 times, if you take a second to really give your obstacle some thought, You can see that it's really not that big of an obstacle. More often than not, its your anxiety around the obstacle that is actually causing the problem. Imagine you're walking around with your eyes closed. All you're doing to move forward is shuffling your feet to feel for anything that is in your way. Your feet kicks against something so you freeze. You have no idea what that thing is. It could be a guard rail keeping you from falling off a cliff. It could be a big scary hydraulic press that would crush you if you get too close. So, because you can't actually see it, you build up anxiety around what it could be. You rationalize all of the really scary things that could be in your path and your fear builds up to a crippling point. If you simply take a second to open your eyes and recognize what you've bumped up against, you see that it's literally just a stick. Nothing to fear, nothing to panic over, you simply step over it and keep moving. This happens for me so often. I build up my anxieties, my imposter syndromes, all of my doubts, and I start to get that analysis paralysis. As soon as I take 5 minutes to sit, and analyze what these fears are, I see that there is nothing more than a small fleeting thought standing in my way. So....What is your obstacle?

My biggest obstacle is not being able to find a good mentor who can provide expert guidance, both in terms of the quality of my work and career direction/marketing.
