Can members cancel $ subscription and stay in group?

Can a member cancel their subscription but be allowed to stay as a member?

I am changing from paid to free and want my paid members (who upgrade to pay-wall classrooms, via an external subscription payment provider) to be able to stay in the 'free' group.

It seems that if I cancel a members subscription they will automatically be removed from the group at the end of their subscription; and I can't see an option for them to be allowed to stay.
