Tech and Facilitation
Pitch your Value, over features.
The purpose of your business is to create "VALUE" in the marketplace. The biggest mistake many businesses make who are selling a "service" to other businesses, is that they BELIEVE they are selling "the service" (the vehicle). The service you have is only a VEHICLE TYPE (Email marketing, Facilitator workshops, Facebook As, Google Ads, Website Design, Consultancy etc) that delivers the VALUE to a SPECIFIC TARGET AUDIENCE. Your target audience are not so concerned with 'what' vehicle you use to deliver the value than the value itself. They are more concerned with their NEEDS, their DESIRES, being fulfilled, and their FRUSTRATIONS and PAIN POINTS being alleviated. True VALUE CREATION is what addresses those needs and desires and alleviates those pain points. So what is the "VALUE" that your facilitator workshop brings to your client?

5 Key Things I've Learned Facilitating Workshops
Fresh off facilitating a one-day workshop for a dream client, and it's got me reflecting on some key takeaways from my 7+ years in facilitation, scrum, and project management. These lessons have not only improved my work as a facilitator and workshop designer but can hopefully support you, too! ✅ Have a plan for when things don’t go according to plan. ➡️ Agendas are essential, but they’re guides, not rigid blueprints. As facilitators, we need to stay flexible and prioritize the client’s needs over a strict agenda. Be ready to pivot—whether it's adjusting for an exercise running too long, navigating tough personalities, or managing intense discussions to keep the conversation productive. ✅ Ask the right questions. ➡️ Open-ended "How" and "What" questions go a long way. They prompt deeper thinking and allow participants to engage in more meaningful ways. ✅ Understand the group dynamics. ➡️ Collaborate closely with your client or point of contact to understand the team’s culture. Are they lighthearted, appreciating humor, or more reserved? Are there specific topics to avoid or conflicts to be aware of? Knowing these details will help you create a safe, inclusive space that leaves participants feeling understood and accomplished. ✅ Set clear ground rules. ➡️ Ground rules are crucial for establishing expectations, ensuring respectful interactions, and fostering a space where everyone can share openly and feel valued. They set the tone, helping maintain focus and flow throughout the session. ✅ Time-box, time-box, time-box! ➡️ One early mistake I made was letting discussions go unchecked without setting time limits, which quickly led to running over schedule and losing participant engagement. Time-boxing each exercise ensures everyone gets a chance to speak without losing momentum or control. It’s an essential tool for keeping everyone on track and maintaining trust with your group. Curious—what’s a facilitation mistake you’ve made, and what did you learn from it? Share in the comments so we can all learn from each other’s experiences!

Paperless Facilitation
I am coming under pressure from a corporate client to go paperless for all training sessions.... these are in-person sessions where literal hands-on work is an important part of the learning experience. I am wondering if any of you are also encountering this and what you reaction is. Sure, a lot of exercises can be digitised, but do we WANT that? Also, what is your response to client? Any insights would be very helpful, thanks.
