Finding the Right Fit - AAU tryouts
Off-season Plans
With the season ending for many and playoffs starting (good luck to those in the state tournament!) now is the time to get started on your offseason plans. That doesn’t mean you should jump in right away. It may be useful to take some time off (and by that I mean a few days to a week) and make plans for how you can reach your goals for next season. Some important questions to consider: 1) what skills do I need to improve? 2) how long will it take to improve those skills sufficiently? 3) what is a consistent schedule I can keep to reach my goals? 4) who else can help me reach my goals? 5) what obstacles will I face and how can I overcome them? There are likely more that you can think of, but these are important ones to get started with. Let’s get to work!

The Shock Factor
I shared this on Instagram a few days ago, but I think it's super important. Got cut? Stuck on the bench? It’s a tough spot, but you need to face reality. Coaches will always take into account who you have been as a player. Unless you are significantly and noticeably better, any improvement is not going to do much. You need a shock factor. Something that will reset the coach’s brain into reevaluating you from scratch. Dunking is the most obvious one. Finishing through contact. Step back 3s. Behind the back passes. It’s not enough to get marginally better. They won’t notice. Wake up their brain, and then they’ll be able to see all the little things that you have improved on. So there’s no time to waste. Get started now!

How Much Skill Time?
How much time are you spending each day working on your individual skills? This does not include team practice or games, just you with the ball in the gym (or driveway) building your skills.
