Wisdom I Wrote to Myself in 2020
"You are less complicated than an angry child and more complicated than a smiling infant." Sept 5, 2020 "The opposite of action is delay." "I'm not going to remember my grades I'm going to remember the people I interact with." Dad's advice on university: "Hit it hard. Do your best. See what you get." "The person who manages their time and energy most effectively gets the best mark." (Not sure where I got this) You have to start with the customer experience and work back to the technology.

Book Reflection - The Laws of Human Nature by Robert Greene
Hey guys! I haven't quite finished the book yet, but I figured I'd share about a book I've been reading recently called The Laws of Human Nature by Robert Greene (recommended to me by Aaron himself). The book is about trying to read the people in your life and what makes people tend to move up and down in the world. One of my favourite chapters so far is called "soften people's resistance by confirming their self-opinion," which discusses people's need for the following 3 things: (1) having their self-opinion confirmed, (2) believing themselves to be intelligent, and (3) seeing themselves as a good person. Everybody generally sees themselves as above average in their ability to think critically and support the right causes, and whether or not that is true for an individual, Greene stresses the importance of never undermining these qualities when you are talking to people. Other chapters in the book talk about our tendencies to be very short-sighted, people's attitudes becoming self-fulfilling prophecies, how to recognize envy in people, the temptation to overestimate your skills and underestimate luck after a major success, how gender stereotypes can lead people to try to create a "consistent identity" as they get older, the overwhelming power of group think, and lots more. It's been extremely insightful overall. My one criticism is that sometimes it feels like Greene's focus on negative qualities makes it feel like he sees the world as full of malicious people who are out to harm you, something I do not feel about those around me. Each chapter contains a wealth of insight in and of itself though, and I have really enjoyed reading about Robert Greene's discernment of how people tend to act.
