Hello i have a question, what were the pros and cons for Alistair in MMA with a “Dutch kickboxing” background? In which situations was he better in MMA/striking, and in which situations might he have been weaker in MMA/striking?
@Joakim Engberg I believe that “Dutch kickboxing” can contribute a lot in MMA if a fighter is developed in other aspects. A lot of Dutch kickboxers have a high guard, poor footwork, poor distance control and try to kick in every combination they throw. In a kickboxing match they wouldn’t be punished for that easily. In MMA, all those weaknesses will be exposed quickly once they face an allround MMA fighter. The high guard will be easily penetrated with small gloves. Poor distance control, footwork and head movement will make them an easy target to get their base broken and taken down. I believe that good wrestlers and grapplers can really benefit from working with creative Dutch striking coaches that actually respect MMA.
