Hello everyone! It's incredible. A couple of years ago, I sent a request out into the Universe, and here I am - scoring for my first movie. It's a testament to the power of believing in "you become what you think." 🌠🌟 I wanted it, and I got it. Now, however, comes the scariest part. I have barely three weeks left until the deadline. 😅 The movie director was supposed to send it to me in January-February, and it was supposed to be about 10 minutes long. But surprise! I received the final cut on Wednesday, and it's 20 minutes long. I have to deliver the music by May 15th, or else he won't be able to submit the application to the Toronto Festival. It's a pivotal moment in my life, and I need to give it my absolute best, right? Could any of you guide me a little? Is there anything specific I should consider on the technical side when writing for a movie? I know there's a 5.1 surround setting for the final mix, but does this mean I have to mix my channels in a specific way, or is the usual L/R panning setting sufficient? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

I assume that most of the members here have a full-time job, and compose as a hobby or with the intention of making it a full-time job. I'm curious if you try to organize your compositional "obligations" on a weekly or even daily basis and how you manage to balance that with everyday life and all that it entails? For example, I work at a music school and I don't have the most normal working hours. I work at a different time every day, and when I add to that other activities such as competitions, concerts (of which we have almost a hundred in the season) and other projects, sometimes I am at school all day. Often after class I don't have the strength or will to compose, except when I'm facing deadlines (then things just go by themselves, but it's a lot of stress). I don't want this to be a post in which I complain how difficult it is for me, but I am interested in how you plan your time and how you organize yourself considering all the other obligations? For example, do you have a certain amount of music you want to write each day and how you want to do it? Do you first work on motivic and thematic material and for how long, do you work on the form, how do you prepare the writing of a thematic album when it comes to a certain genre, etc.? Thanks a lot!

I did some more testing and found the tuning issue seems to just be in the SF Chamber Strings patch d-Celli and specifically the legato setting. The "long" setting seems fine. Crazy, but those two settings playing the same note are 11 cents different in pitch. Enough you might not notice as a solo instrument, but put against anything else it starts to sound like an open mic orchestra, lol. In the two screenshots if you look at the Melodyne window, I highlighted the long F notes and you can see Melodyne analyzes the Legato F as -15 cents flat while the same MIDI note played through the Long setting is only -4 cents flat.
