3 Quotes 1. James Clear “Do the most important thing first each day.” 2. Mike Matthew’s “Do the most important things, mostly right, most of the time.” 3. Peter Drucker “There is surely nothing quite so useless as doing with great efficiency what should not be done at all.” 2 Stories 1. Two brothers grew up farming together. When their dad passed, they each wanted to feel like they were providing for their own family. They split the farm down the middle trying to make it as equal as possible. The older brother would get up in the morning, feed the animals, water the field, and pull weeds. The younger would research the best methods to produce high yields, negotiate with buyers for better prices, and shop for new equipment, then get out around noon and often found himself running out of daylight before he got all his work done. After years of struggling and getting less and less done, the younger brother ask his elder what he could do to save his farm. The older brother’s response. “Wake up, feed the animals, and water your crops. There is nothing more important on the farm, so there is nothing that should be done before that.” 2. A man was teaching us children with two empty jars one day. He also has a bag of Sand, a cup of pebbles, and several large rocks. He poured the sand into one of the jars and challenged his children to put the large rocks inside. Not all would fit. He then out the large rocks in the other jar, poured the pebbles in with them and finally added the sand from the other jar as well. Astonished that everything fit in one jar the children asked how he had done it. He explained that as with life, if you prioritize the largest and most important parts you will still have space for other things. 1 Challenge Share what the most important uses of your time and energy are this week.

Fitness goals
I’m a lifelong skinny kid and I hate it! I’ve put in some good work in the last couple of years. Earlier this year I hit the biggest and strongest I’ve ever been. I have gotten back into the gym over the last couple of weeks and I’m excited to build some long term consistency. My next goal is to be 185 lbs at 10% body weight. Thats 20lbs of lean mass gain. What are your fitness goals?

@Jon Chase Thanks! I put on 20 lbs last fall and got to the biggest I've been— 160 @ 12% — my other goals include joining the 1000 lb club and longevity. Health is the important part but there is definitely and aspect of looking good with my clothes on AND off. right now I only have the latter haha!

@Brent Longhurst Thanks Brent. They are not super easy to achieve and I think thats my favorite part.

2 is huge and hits me right in the heart. I have 1 biological sibling and 8 total with step and half in there. There is a something to be said about a step dad stepping in and the positive impact he can have on your life.

Great goals! We have a lot in common, but your marathon goal is nuts. I used to want to run ultras, but have stopped running for various reasons. 3.5 hours almost qualifies you for Boston, doesn't it?
Current Goals (it's a long post)
I have been doing personal development since 2008 and I have done so many goal setting sessions. I have made vision boards, and focused all of my energy into those goals. I have achieved many of my goals since then and I have failed at achieving even more of them. My thoughts about goal setting has shifted to "Commit to the Process, not the outcome." Outcome based Goals vs "Commit to the Process" Focusing on an outcome based goal, like hitting 600 lbs on deadlift, can lead to so much frustration when it is not achieved. I believe humans can achieve many things but I do not believe "nothing is impossible". If you truly believe that, then fly without a wingsuit, or plane to assist you. What I do believe is "With God, all things are possible" and "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." To me this means I can overcome anything within God and Jesus. "With God" and "Through Christ" must mean a change within my character. Meaning, when I am acting in spirit/union with God, he changes my my heart, strengthens my mental resilience, and therefore I can overcome the obstacle. I am a witness to this power so many times in my life: I died when I was 13 years old, I was addicted to porn, alcohol, drugs, and violence from age 13-19. I know "They" have strengthened me. But God isn't going to grant me my wish to fly or he would have made me a bird. And a goal of 600 lbs deadlift just may not be in the cards/genetics for most people. Even with years of proper training, eating tons of protein, quality of sleep, supplements, etc., some people's body's are not built to pick up 350 lbs stones and put them on a 4 ft box. Further, some are not built for box jumping over 60 inches, or running a 4 minute mile either. And that's OKAY! I have learned to let God drive more often instead of forcing my life to be what I think it should be. There is a level of surrendering to His will that has taken me years and years of humbling experiences. WOW! that was a long paragraph. Back to outcome based goals vs. "Commit to the Process"

I agree with you on goal setting. For me the outcome is always the growth in myself. When I was 20, I set goals for the next 5 years of my life. Within 6 months I had achieved all of them except one. I think it is important for me to have outcomes attached to my goals. They give me direction while I am working. Your dunk at 50 is a great example. My daughters are 5 and 7, and I have the goal to beat each of their future husbands on their wedding day in a foot race. That means in my 40s or 50s, I will be able to outrun a 20 to 30-year old. My goals need to do 2 things. They need to scare me and excite me. a 600 lb deadlift does that, but so does joining the 1000 lb club which is much more achievable for me.
