So, passing a notable historic estate I noticed areas that require my services. I tracked down the estate management office and went on over. I noticed the offices of a historic restoration company in the next office. Contact details for absent estate director and the restoration director letting the office next door. 48hrs later and I have a meeting with the restoration firm that carries out the work on the estate - the good work on the estate. He also does work on buildings from Westminster to Salisbury and everything between. He now has a skilled craftsman carpenter/joiner in his people to call and I have new jobs booked in at four sites, great terms, slight resistance on pricing but acceptance ultimately. I am keen on every job presented. I start work on Central Hall - Westminster on Wednesday. A jackpot for our business after Instarted my meeting telling him he needed me, not, asking if I could help!

Positive Feedback to First Direct Mail
Posted out the first 10 laser-targeted direct mail letters on Tuesday evening. Had our first response today (Friday) ... our future client isn't ready to buy at this moment in time, but I'm delighted with his really positive feedback 😊 Follow-up calls to the other nine suspects / prospects scheduled for next Tuesday.

Win some, lose some!
Instructed to carry out a task that I am not qualified to do without specific, designed and tested instruction from a structural engineer. I declined and later refused quite pointedly after being threatened with being replaced by a person that would get it done, a 'mate' Specialist' type. A year since I started, four months since this manager started on this business site and all of the projects on my docket are now 'on-hold' or 'awaiting approval' Cut to right now and I have loaded my tools and equipment into my van and am now re-organising my diary after also being told that if they find a solution I should be 'on-call' to return rapidly and implement. I suspect that powers above will ask questions and will be resolved - as for me? My rates have just been adjusted, just for them and effective immediately!! As for the win - as I was loading tools up, a new client across the field from where I was stood dropped me a call and asked me to meet his father and business partner after we had discussed a couple of historic building repairs las week. Turns out business partner father was happy with my proposed works and decided on the spot to carry out the full programme of works in one hit instead of a three year programme and to start as soon as I possibly can. - Turns out there is more to be done and he has a great number of like minded, funded and no-nonsense friends and assosciates.

I received a call from a prospect about four months ago. I requested he complete our online form in full and I would get back to him later in the day when I could give the topic my full attention. He filled out the form and we arranged a site visit - no charge on this one, five minutes from my door and I appreciated his compliance and manner to this point. I was asked to repair existing joinery on an existing structure, we set a time frame and agreed rules within 15mins of my arrival. Cost plus basis on an assumed two week duration. - Well the existing porch was a disaster and was not for purpose once I had managed to peel away the layers of attempted repairs. My client requested that I design, build and install an oak frame porch in its place, requested a guide price to avoid any blunders or unexpected bills and embarrassment on either side. At the same time he asked about other issues in the property and has requested my services in restoration works throughout the property on an ongoing basis. The images below have black temporary panels and in the spring they will be rendered with lime. I have been asked to assist in this as it will not only help my client but he knows it will help toward my ongoing studies and experience in heritage building works. I was given a list of projects within the property before he had even seen the design for the porch let alone installed it. Now it is installed and functioning in time to stop the rain coming in through his front door this winter, he chases me to send a bill and we are working a program the rest of his home. He and his wife are ideal clients, no nonsense, no bullshit, they know I am increasing rates again and they call to ask if there is anything else they can do to make my life easier including the use of their workshop, lifting equipment and even providing additional labour if required. This is an example of a project I am interested in doing with people I like, on terms that suit us both for a rate I am happy with.
